Twitter would admit that we really parted with love. It just goes to show you that, in all honesty, the show and we never really talked about this, but the show is catching on, which I love. So yesterday I'm at home and I was talking to Trish, my wife, about you know, episode fifty and everything. Also my cell phone rang with an old, old, old phone number, and I'm like, get out of here. Is it really this person? And I couldn't believe it. So I picked up my cell phone and I'm like hello, and who I heard on the other end sealed the deal for the show that we're about to have today. Okay, perfect, sounds like a plan. Did you know who it was? You know? I have because I have him in my phone. I'll say I'm given away a ready without him. I have this person in my phone listed. I never lost this guy's number, alright, so I was just but it's been a long time since I've heard from him. I couldn't Hello. That's not a hint, that's it hello. Is it a dell? We right, bald freak, let's get back into our time machine. I want to go all the way back to the summer, back to the summer. What the hell is that back in the summer night nine. There was so much going on in music, especially at our home base at Z one hundred. I mean, the list, the laundry list of so called quote un called boy bands just goes on and on and on. Right, one of the major major boy bands of our time was none other than Degrees. Well, guys, ninety degrees is on tour again and they are doing a show in Brooklyn in your hood guys at the new AMPI Theater in Coney Island. And what is an Amphi Theater? That's what it's called. It's called the theater. Do you have to cut your arm off before you go after show? Whatever the freaking thing is, it's called an Amphitheater. But whatever the freaking thing is, it's there for Coney Island. Show is tonight. So part one of my surprise of today's show is none other than Jeff Timmins of Degrees and he's on the phone with us right now. Jeff, I'm so glad you had to get back that's right, and and go back and time. We didn't come back to the present. I'm so glad we're part of that time machine history with you guys. Anyhow, thanks for having me on. How you guys? First of all, we're doing really well. Um, we we have to talk and Greg t just to pull up the information. You are on the my two K two K tour A rolling through town Coney on tonight with you guys, Oh Town, Ryan, Ryan Cabrera, who else is gonna be here? This is crazy? Dream Dream is also on the list. Really the girl group dream is They're they're incredible. So so are you having fun on this tour? Like like, like talk to us about it? What's it like going, you know, doing this stuff? Well, listen, guys, I mean, this is the most fun I've ever had on tour ever. I mean, and and I think collectively as a group, we could all tell you this is the most fun we've had. I mean, there's no pressure. We've all gone in our different directions of course, had different careers, done a bunch of different stuff. So you know, the pressure that was on us back in the day, you know when we were out is no longer there. So it's just going to have fun, enjoy and the fans are still there. You know, those girls, those girls that were twelve and thirteen years old there now in their twenties and thirties, and and they're more exuberant and enthusiastic than ever, and they could coming out and showing up for us, and there we could be luckier. You have you have you had like a lot of a lot of girls say hey, look, you know they're showing you pictures of you with them when they were like sixteen, seventeen years old and like, now, I gotta tell you, it's worse than that. Like they they were nine and ten, some of these girls. You know, I was in there. We've performed at the casino called Foxwoods, and I was out at the bar having a beer or whatever with our security guy, and some girls hate for my drink and I look over and gorge to gorgeous girls in their early twenties, and I'm like, wow, all right, I can't let you do that. They're like we were nine years old when you were when your poster was on the wall. I'm like, this feels very good and very bad at the same time. So, Jeff, let me ask you guys just something. It was a long, long time ago, back in the day where Degrees came up to see one hundred. I remember that, you know, had this gigantic tour bus and you guys were touring up and down the East Coast. I mean, there wasn't a venue that Degrees wasn't playing at. And at one point the one hundred gave me the opportunity to ride on the actual bus with you guys and to actually, you know, witness all the shenanigans that goes on on a tour bus. With a boy band, and it was a lot of fun. There was a lot of girls throwing bras at us. It was craziness. But one of the cool things that I still recall is using the bathroom on board the bus and when I opened up the toilet inside, stuffed in there were pictures of the Backstreet Boys that we've piste on. Come on, that's funny because I don't recollect that happening. So we we we we were. Look, I'm not saying giving you the politically correct answer, we love the Backstreet Boys. I'm actually really close friends a lot of those guys. I was about to say, you guys, do you guys are all tight? Right? You guys are really thinking we're all we if we've always been tight. That's what's funny about it, because people, you know, the media would love to portray that. But I'm sure that was some sort of shenanigan that our management knew you were going to be on the bus in there to create some fodder for you guys. But we love, we love, we love the back Sea Boys. I mean, I just did a movie with with Nick and and A j and you know that that that seven movie, which was a blast by the way, seven that was pretty cool. It was awesome. Man Like, look, I'm no actor. Of course, we're not gonna win any officers or aciding the awards for it, but we knew what it was going into it, and it was just a fun time. I think it was basically all the boy band guys in Pute, Montana, in the middle of nowhere, so in the movie screwing around having a good time, and it turned out to be a blast. And it's actually become, you know, kind of a cult little thing that's that's sort of caught Inferno all over the world, believe it or not. Again, not not like the most uh prestigious work on the in it, but just sort of a cult following, you know, by bands and zombies. You know, it's like it was fun to be a part of that was really fortunate. That's awesome. You know, Um, what you know, for people that are that are coming to the show on any of the any of the stuffs, you have a lot of stops left, don't you. Well, well, I think we have like twelve or thirteen left or something. So more than half that audiences heard are seeing some of this stuff. But what if they haven't gone. What can they expect when they when they come out. Well, look, this this tour is a lot different than any other ninety eight degree shows. I mean, obviously we were known for our ballots and stuff, so you know, people have seen this on TV back in the day and in recent times. You know, we do a lot of love songs and stuff like that, but this tour is a little bit different. But there's a lot of high energy stuff in it. I mean, we have a couple of tributes, a couple of tributes in there, a lot about tempo. We we integrate the groups into a couple of things, and you know, for for once, for the first time in a long time, you know, folks are really coming away from the show giving us kudos on the show because you know, look, folks hated boy band back in the day, and no matter how good you could perform on stage, you're always going to get, you know, some sort of bad review. But certainly we've had it. We've been blessed at Rolling Stone and Billboard and everybody has really given us good reviews on this show because it's just funny. It's it's become trendy though, because there is a sudden resurgence and a lot of these bands from the nineties that are now back on tour. They're all getting back together. So it's it's become a lot of fun and really trendy to show up at some of these concerts now wend. Yeah, I mean it absolutely is. I mean, look, it's a throwback to your youth, right, nice because we're already growing up at the time we were doing it. So but you know, to to your youth, you're in no stuoah, I mean it'd be like me with Duns and Roses come back, you know that's right, and you know that you're playing that Kney on Amphitheater tonight. Uh, New Kids on the Block we're they're just like a couple of weeks ago. So the n KOTB had some had other people there. They're they're fan from this era, you know, and that you know, that was actually interesting to you know. We we did we did, uh we did the Package Store with them and boys, the men who were our idols, and that was a big success for us. I mean, we hadn't been around for a long time, so we were really fortunate to get with our idols boys the man. Of course, we do kids on the block, our legends, and then you know, look, we got to do mixtape with them, uh in Pennsylvania a couple of weeks ago or a week ago. I can't even keep track of time I had, uh, but but they were great and and you know, we're wor again. We're very fortunate that we can come back and have fans out there and be a part of this stuff, and you know, at this time in our career, so we really appreciate it. All comes back to the fans now, Jeff, Um, I ran into you in Iowa. We were in town for either the state Fair or was the beer and wine festival I forgot and we were hanging out there one morning and I was at breakfast and I was talking, you know. One of the girls that I worked with was like, hey, uh, scary, that's Jeff. That's Jeff. I'm like, get out of here. And then we looked outside and there was this giant bus. There was a huge bus outside and I said, men of the Strip, and oh my god, that's right. Jeff Timmins, like you started a couple of years ago, and I don't know if it's still going on, but you know, whatever became of that tell everybody what that was and we could say it next. So thanks for asking that question. So so basically I got asked to host the Chippendale. Now a lot of folks thought I became a Chippendale dancer. You got the body for it, man, Well, I don't know about that. If you see these guys, these guys are like I appreciate that these guys are like six ft plus and shredded to the guilds and then the twenties. But I hosted that show, saw that our fans came out for that, uh, And I said, Wow, this is something that you could you know, create and cultivate and have success with. So I created a Male Review with some really talented folks, uh that that that have worked with, like Michael Jackson and Usher and Pink And you know, we aided this Male Review, which is just like Magic Mike basically, only we we made sure it was more of a show than a strip show. And yeah, well, okay, there is a different there is right, Well, there's a there's a little bit of a difference. But ultimately it ended up being a big success for us. And and you know, we ended up petting a TV show on E ultimately, you know, right now, we're negotiating something with a uh casino in Las Vegas. So it's actually still around and it's gonna launch and March in Las Vegas there for residency. And again, obviously I don't strip in the show. I host, and we have a whole bevy of folks that are gonna get host for us, and it's just a lot of fun. It's it's really kind of like a playboy actor dark kind of thing. I don't know if you guys are familiar with that, but that's who. I don't know what you're talking about. Never heard of that, but but you know, celebrities used to show up at that and and host that and be a part of that, and that's really what Man of the surbis. So unfortunately that's again still around. And that's by the way, you could check out Men of the Strip dot com for all the upcoming events. Anytime there's gonna be news released on that you'll see. And of course we were in Iowa that morning and I'm sorry we didn't get to go to the show, but we was already too late. We were we had a flight out, so you were coming in and we were leaving, but uh, well I'm sorry we didn't. We didn't get to catch up. That would have been great, I mean, especially to share our backstory pissing on their face. I took a question, so Jeff on tour now, are you guys performing any New Degrees songs like that you guys are working on it was released? Was it a whole nostalgica show? Yeah? Well, you know, definitely, we want to play some nostalgia. Let the fans hear the songs that they wanted to hear. But we do have to new stuff. And again a couple of twist and turns that you know, I don't want to reveal because folks always get surprised the shows. Obviously you can find them online and and all that, but we changed them daily, and you know, we have some surprise guests tonight too. So that's really cool, man, I really it's it sounds awesome, and uh, this is really really neat that you guys are all back together and you're in our town now. I I love it. I think it's real cool. It brings me back to a nice, fun, innocent time, that's for sure. Well, we love New York. I mean we started here. We got signed here, we moved here, we lived in Brooklyn, so it's gonna be get back to good to get back in Brooklyn town is where we were, was our home here. So you know, we're we're happy about coming back and performed for the crowd. And I gotta tell you like New York crowds. I mean, we just sold out Boston and that was a crazy crowd. New York crowd never disappointed us. So we're what's cool? Man? Is your bread basket? You mind if I play? Uh take a little trip in time. I need some time machine music there for you. They we had a handshake deal and I still love Kevin richard Actually, Kevin Richardson actually came to see us play show. My mother made me sleep outside for tickets for my sister, different stories. My sister back was so bad, but she couldn't wait on line to tickets by herself, so I had to sleep with my friends outside outside of a ticketmaster. Not happy. My friends and I were not. Who was the female? Oh town? Was that dream? That was dream? Yeah? Yeah sure, because I kind of opened I think opened for that band a great adventure. Yeah, we we we touch base. And I felt like, oh my god, my my brother from from another mother is uh is on the phone. And I couldn't believe it. You're very very excited, Great Tea, very very very very excitable. Listen, don't talk about my mom on the radio. I feel like there was so much that went on in the in the in the late nineties there with La Poe and it was so exciting so to have those When he said that him and Devon were coming to town, right, I'm like, dude, please, can you guys please come in the podcast. First of all, First of all, just clear this up for me, because Great Tea has been like crowing for years that he discovered your song and put it on the radio, and he is. Great Tea is credited on the c. D as one of the people that you guys think. Can you tell us the story from your vantage point how that oka came about. First of all, great tea, you were just talking about how excited and exciting. But I get a feeling that you get excited to go to McDonald's, right I do. I'm full of life, Okay, I'm just saying no. The truth, the truth of the matter is, if it wasn't for Greg T, I truly believe we would have wound up to be like one of those boy bands that has like a really whack boy band song where we're dancing and doing a bunch of crazy stuff, and then we would have failed after one single because you know, uh, the label, Clive Davis and irish to you know, they were open to the idea of us writing songs. Remember we're sitting in Clive's office and um, I was like, rich let's play in the song. Let's play in the song. And Richard was really scared to play in the song. So we played him Summer Girls. He's like, oh, it's nice. I like it. We can put it on the record, you know. And then the truth of the matter is Greg T was driving through both Washington d Z one. That's right, that's right. He heard the song that the p D from Z one on four was just like going through his his CD is going, I need a summer song. And and our old label with this logic record was like a small indie label on BMG. Kelly Schweinsberg, God Rest her soul. He had sent record out to a bunch of people. So this this p D is one of four, was a summer song. Listens to it goes that's cool. I'll put it on the air. He puts it on the air. Greg T's driving was a mopen you're driving. I had a gelope of a car man and I'm trying to get through the Baltimore Tunnel and all I'm headed back to Jersey and he's right, but that's right. I hear the days before social media, so it's not like I can put a song on YouTube, and it was just this is before Al Gore invented the internet. My girlfriend, my girlfriend the time, who is now my wife, got I can't even know. I don't know how that happened, but she heard the very first lyrics that her mouths were new kids on the block, got a bunch of hits and she's like, you know, of course this big Backstreet Boys fan. I'm sorry, new kids on a block fans and uh, She's like, oh my god, turn it up. We turned up the song. It was so catchy. Then the guy gives out the request number. I called the number and the guy actually picked up the the actual DJ. Who I mean, that would never happen now in New York City, And he said to me, he goes. He's like, he's like, I have no idea who what that song was. He's like, it's in a box of CDs and he really and he's run. I can hear him rummaging through a box of CEV. Doesn't happen like that anybody. I came back here, I said, hey man, you got to hear the song. And it was I think Elvis or Elliott. One of them reached out to their record label. I want to know what happened. Was you guys actually played it one morning on the air. Well, they said, Kelly again, she sent it to us after we reached out you guys. The latter said, I never sent you this because the time you guys were already signed to the bigger label, so they didn't put the song out there at all, So we hadn't we weren't even releasing a record yet. We were, we were just starting recording, so you guys played it on the Friday morning show. From there it blew up. So then all of a sudden was like, you guys gonna get an album done real fast. But the cool thing about that was that they had faith in us as writers and producers, so we were able to write some more songs for the record. So wait a second, So you guys like put an album together in like seventy two hours. It wasn't that quick. I mean, like, how did you guys get it together? Though? It seems like we were already in the process of recording, right, I mean I think when did you meet up with Devin? I mean we were already signed and recording. I mean we were when you were so you were with the LFO group already? Yeah, we were. We were. We were in l A doing some recording with what was that rapper's name that we recorded with T Thank you? How cool? T Q not t I whatever. So let's fast forward now too. I mean, like, like obviously time passed. What did you guys get into after? That? Was about families, the Golden microphone, Elvis, this is Elviss microphone. Yeah, money show love that so so yeah, so to talk about it, like what happened then, like give us where you know, let's catch us up, you know, with with with the audience. Everything was really a line for the first time, Like if I was if I didn't go to see my sister at University of Maryland, if I wasn't driving through, if my girlfriend wasn't a new Kids on a Block fan, you know, if I didn't hear that song, and if the guy didn't answer the phone at that little radio station, how would we ever heard of it? We came back here, somebody knew the new Kelly Kelly had one CD left. She sends it here. I mean it's it was. It was fast, perfect, and all of a sudden, then you're on mt V t r L the next moment and you guys are talking about the song. There's people outside screaming in Times Square. It was outrageous, It really was. Yeah, yeah, I remember being there at the mall. Yeah, everybody was screaming, going nuts. And the Roosevelt Field Mall, you couldn't even get in there. It was jam with girls screen And the cool thing about that was we were up in like they called a green room. It was like the break room for the people who worked at the mall, you know, and we're like, is there anybody there? Is there anybody there? You know? So you had to walk down his food court and then down his escalator, but you still couldn't see the people until you got halfway down the escalator. There all of a sudden, there's ten thousand people and you're in slow motion going down this escalator. You actually I had to hearse my eyes. You know what. This is fate because no, lie Um the Morning Show had to go somewhere last week day to go to the Iowa State Fair and I stayed behind and I got a phone call. Can you do this appearance at the Roosevelt Field Mall, same exact spot. I'm working with interns that are like, you know, half my age, and I go, you know, guys, back in the day, there was this massive concert here right all of a sudden, me and you hook up maybe like three days later. I mean, this is weird how everything's really happening here. Bizarre And no, lie, this is the whole thing now they think about it, be at the place twilight Zone. I'm serious. Listen, we also have to pay. We also have to talk about you know, we know Rich is not here, Rich cronin um and and I guess without Rich there wouldn't be LFO at all, Am I correct, well, I mean, without without any of us, it would be no LEFO. So certainly, you know, Um, we each had our place in the group. Certainly Rich was an essential element. Le Foe can never be the same. I mean, we're still alive, we're still here, and we're glad that people, you know, feel something positive when they hear our music or they see us. Um. And we still feel very much a part of lf because we are you know, but they'll never quite I don't know. It can never be the same, and it will never be the same for us, and it won't be the same for our fans. But you know, there's times where you have a moment where you could, you know, you could keep rich Is memory alive and really his legend alive, his mystique. And these are moments like that where you know, we can, uh, we can keep the phone name continuing on, even in a small level. It's nice, you know, it's it was a big part of our lives. And Rich it was Rich his entire life. And and you know what, every time, you know, every time you hear one of those songs, whether it be Girl and TV or or some of Girls or anything and the other ones, it's just it brings you back. Every time you put on like and you have those those memories. I mean I got you know, you get goose bumps. I got chills, you know. He's so tall, and all of a sudden behind him was Devon, which I didn't know. You're like, my surprise, Now, I didn't know you're gonna be here. Bro, I'm so pumped up that you two are in this room. We just um talked to Jeff Timmins from ninety degrees Oh towns around Ryan Cabrera and Dream they're doing the show to be here. You're like, a second, how did you guys get connected with Jeff? Again? So some of the ONE members want to know. I mean, after everything settles, after the dust settles, and then you guys come back down to reality, and so where have you guys been? What have you been doing? Uh? In all this time? I know it's along a lot of a lot of time, but if you can give me just a couple of things that you guys have been doing, Devin, what have you been up to? Um? Basically after that it was a quick ride, right yeah. Then basically my dream to that point came true. And if you really focusing and pay attention this peace. Yeah, I left the world. Then I said, if I could do it again, what do I What would I do? So I learned how to play the instruments. Now I'm just doing my own stuff. He's doing his own stuff. And to say that you don't desire to do it again, they'd be a lie, right right right? You know, I mean it's hard to walk off that stage and like you know, the fans screaming and going, it's like such a rush. I'm sure. Yeah, that's awesome. So now are you are. We're working on solo projects at this point. Well, you know, actually after LFO went on Hiatus, I started a record label, so I have distribution through through Warner Brothers and Um. We did a record on Devon that was one of, you know, one of the records I put out on the label, and it was truly one of the greatest pop records of like the last twenty years. I'm serious, an awesome record. But you know, me being a small indie label, trying to compete with the majors was impossible. I mean, we had we did a lot of fun stuff. We did, did a lot of stuff in New York. We did some good tours and got some radio play. Didn't take off as much as we wanted to, but record that we can look back on a bit. Man. We're so proud of that record, and so we were. You know, we've worked together in that capacity. You know. UM, these days, most of the music I make, honestly is uh is is Christian musically. Yeah, you know, about five six years ago, I got sucked into church work. I had no intention on doing anything, but the pastor at the church is the six ft eight guy. He knew I how the background of music, and he called me in his office one day. He goes, hey, listen, I want you to do a contemporary Mass at the church. That's crazy. We're Catholic. We don't listen to contemporary music, you know. And so he's like, no, you gotta do it, Brad. I'm like, well, I'm not doing it. I don't know anything about Christian music. I don't like it. Come by all, my lord, it's not cool. You know, I don't anything. But well that's the thing. Goes listen, Brad, it's gonna be great. You gotta do It's okay, Well when is it going to be He goes, well, it's gonna be on Sunday afternoons. And this is like October November. I go Sunday afternoon, like I watched football and stuff. He gave me a talking Competit gave me the look. Yeah, he gave me that look only only a priest or, a pastor could give you. And so, you know, I knew nothing about the Catholic lenergy. I knew nothing about Christian music. So I started digging in. And you know, one of the greatest choices I've ever made, you know, not only from my personal life, but my professional life too. I'm in the midst of working on some new Christian media projects. So right on. So yeah good. And now you guys are both married, now your kids are not married. What does ten kids between us? The two of you guys, we got we got down. Oh my god. You can start like five boy bands. There's a lot of things.
