Speaker 1: Episode three eighty one. It's the Brooklyn Boys Podcast. Hello everybody, I'm Scary Jones. I'm David Brody. Happy fourth of July. If you're hearing this around the fourth of July, if you're all think six months later, we hope you had a good fourth of July. It'll be after the boy Finger. It will definitely be after the fourth of July when they hear this for sure. Oh right, right, right right, because we're yep, we're recording. We're recording around the fourth of July, but well we're also finishing it on Monday, so that'll be after because we have time to finish the whole thing too. No, I mean yeah, and then I'm going I'm out of town, so that's it. I'm going. I'm going to Anguila with my family, which I'm so excited for your family or in Guila. And have you found Aguila on a map yet? Yeah, it's uh not far from Saint Martin. Yeah, yeah, yeah, No, I've never been very excited and uh yeah, it's just you know what's different about Saint Anguila, besides the difference between Anguila and Saint Martin and all the other islands in that area. No, don't you think you should? Let's see Anguilla. Oh yeah, I know Anguila is out of the hurricane zone. That does nothing to do with you. I'm asking, like, what's like. You're going to an island, there'll be beaches, but like, what's different? Oh, what you learned? Oh, you drive on the other side of the road there. Oh it was a British territory at one point. Yeah, you drive on the left side of the road. What else? What else Anguilla facts? Yeah, I don't know. I just know that when you get to you have to fly to Saint Martin. You can't fly well, you can fly directly to Anguilla, but not from here. So I'm gonna fly to Saint Martin. We're gonna take a ferry over there, and then I'm gonna be with my dad and my brother and my sister, their families, my sister in law and her parents, and even my sister in law's parents, sister's sister and her boyfriend, so cousin's roommate's friends gonna be It's gonna be it's gonna be crazy. Yeah, it's gonna be a big old family, scary family hoedown in Anguilla. But uh well, let me let me tell you what I've learned about Anguilla. But I just looked it up. Yeah, it's an exclusive British overseas territory, so still under the British monarchy. Thirty three world class powdery white sand beaches, bats where clear, crystal clear turquoise waters. Hold on, you're gonna like this one. It's not a scary sit down, you're sitting down. Yes, you walk inside, I am. It is known as the culinary capital of the Caribbean, which in itself is a mouthful. It's small, yes, it is. The island boasts over seventy restaurants, considering it's only sixteen miles long and three miles wide. This food scene ranges from high end gourmet dining where scary will be at luxury resorts, to casual beach frunch barbecue shacks featuring grilled crave fish, local Caribbean lobster available. You're running Johnny Cakes, Johnny Cakes, Baby Johnny Cakes for everybody. Exclusive. By the way, wasn't Johnny Cakes a character on the sopranos. Yes, he got his head best and during Pride month. Yeah, that is. One of the things I do know is that I've been told because apparently, my have you never been there before. It's if you had a buster and punch switches in the hotel room. Apparently this island has my name written all over it because specifically the food is a standout, and I don't know I'm gonna be eating. I'll be good some good eatings. In fact, I don't think I should take my shot this week. I'm thinking about laying off my GLP one shot works well. I mean, if I pump myself with some GLP ones, I'm gonna lose my appetite quickly like I always do. And now you don't have ozembic face or ozembic arms yet, do you? No? No, no, no, I don't have ozepic. I'm not on a semi glue tie. I'm on. I'm saying you're the other thing you're on the uh yeah, By the way, my favorite laundry detergent huhide, Oh gotcha. Yeah. Your clothing goes in extra large, comes out medium. Yeah that so hi yeah so yeah, so so that should be a lot of fun. I can't wait to go, and you know I'll be out of here. You know, the first week of my vacation, I pretty much pissed away. I didn't do anything with it. You're talking about we did Slice time. So we did Slice time. We're here for this and we're doing this podcast now and no so but that aside. I hid from the heat. It was like north of one hundred degrees three consecutive days. And I don't remember, I don't have an outdoor pool, so I said, your indoor pool, no way. You know me, I ain't gonna go indoor pool. I ain't having it. I ain't going out that way. Such. But the point is, I'm laying in the air conditioning. Every time I went outside, I felt like I was gonna melt. It was. It was oppressively hot. And I'm sure you felt it even worse living in the burbs. Well, I don't think that, well because I don't have the breeze coming off the ocean the river like you know, you're not by the river like me. Yeah, so, uh, you live in a van down by the river, right, Okay? No, a van down by the river. I don't know, No, Sorry, got it? A live I live in a van down by the Chris Farley most famous sketches on Saturday Night Live History. Yeah. Anyway, holy shit, anyway, I talked about this on Slice Time a few days ago. Yeah, when my my my temperature on the car showed and the outside temperature was one hundred degrees. But I wasn't gonna post it. I didn't post it yesterday either, But it was one hundred and two degrees according to my car yesterday. Everyone's posting that ship, Everyone's screenshotting their weather apps. I get it. It says one hundred everyone the dashboard, every know the temperature. Yeah, I didn't post it. I wasn't gonna be that person. Huh. So interesting thing going on as we speak, David Brody. Now, as you know, in my new palatial studios, I have a view high above Manhattan. I mean I'm staring. Did you see Did you see it happening? No? I did not because I wasn't home. You're talking about the couple that scaled the bire State Building. You would have been able to see it. By the way, that is the greatest meme right now is everybody's changing the flag, the flag of what they waved out. One was like fire. David Stearns, the president of baseball operations for the Meds. I've seen food related stuff, political related stuff. Just but in case you were living in an iron lung. A couple dressed as Batman and Batwoman, bat Supergirl whatever. She's a daredevil model anyway, with a big following on Instagram. They climbed the spire of the Empire State Building to the very very top of the fucking antenna. Literally the antenna that Z one hundred and all the radio stations broadcast from. That is how them that's inspired, That is where we broadcast from, like literally that that place where they were they were, they were on that little little little platform videos just to be clear, because it's been forty years of lying that the studios are not at the Empire Statements, but the broadcast is emanating ten feet from where they were proposing, like literally right there with the antenna. And by the way, a lot of single men are fucking pissed right now, because how do you top that guy's proposal. We climbed to the top of the Empire State Building and drop down on one knee on the antenna. Yeah, and broadcasting globally. The whole world saw it. Yeah, how do you compete with that? Oh? Honey, by the way, uh, I have an orchestra here playing for you. Great, you didn't climb the Empire state. How lucky that snipers didn't shoot them down because and mistake them for other something else? Because where would the snipers be scar what else building that area? My point is like, you just don't know, Like there are police helicopters. Everyone was circling the thing, and I guess from the helicopters. Yeah, like you just don't know. You don't know what's going on. Who wasn't They could have had bombs on them and blown the antent of off. Okay, all right, let's not be more so think about that moreas you just said, shot them dead. That's what I'm telling them. I'm just to say, anyone die and I said, blow up. They are lucky. They are lucky. They are lucky that they didn't get killed, because they would have getten been taken out in a heartbeat. Yes, well do you know how did you you know more about how they got up there? No? I know so recently maybe within a month they did a whole security check. Empire State building did a whole security test and tested all the security systems. These guys got around it. Apparently they went there a bunch of times. They watched to see what time shift change was, who locked down, what at what times, what the protocols were. So when they went, they went the night before and at lockdown, they they set the alarms off, but then hit in floorboards or in the ceiling or whatever. So when the security cameras, we're looking for the water who set the alarm waft, they didn't see anything. So everybody went home and they had they had burglar tools to break into the doors that protect the antenna. So you know, people are gonna get fired for their security because they just checked the security protocols and now they're gonna have to put like steel doors up and like all kinds of you know, right, But I mean, if these two people who aren't even from our country, we're able to come here and scout out the building for multiple times. They're checking surveillance tapes see how often they've been there. This was not like oh, we just opened the door and walked upstairs. There's no observation deck where they just climbed up. Thank god, they did that, because now they've just caused us to just fortify and reconsider what what the hell? Thank god they didn't you know what they've called it. They forced us to actually look over our security detail and we'll be that much stronger for next time. So they should be loaded as heroes and be thrown taken out of jail, no argument. I'll tell you what we did you a favor. They were lauded as heroes online. The online community is sick. The comments section is sick. Sick. Listen. It's the same people who even worse were happy about the guy who shot the guy uh right by the way ze one hundred studios, the pharmaceutical guy like, oh good fami, he's a hero. I mean, listen, No, the reality is not what it used to be. Well anyway, people are returning inflatable mattresses evidencely they did a bad thing. They deserve to go to jail, They deserve to be fined, they deserve to have the book thrown at them. But we'll see. You know who else deserves to go to jail. And I was a fan, but I am not a fan anymore. Sketchers, Okay, be careful what you say about sketches because I love sketchers.
00:10:42
Speaker 3: I have.
00:10:42
Speaker 1: I have like a seven or eight pair of slippings. I love them. Before we go, before we go there, Here we go with the sidetracking. Before we let's pause there because I had a point to make. Oh they're heroes. No, No, I wasn't even talking about the couple. I was talking about something else. Oh, so as online, Let's roll back to the point of the conversation where I said, as you know my palatial studios, as I'm facing this camera, just beyond the camera is my window, and out my window right in front of my face, because I'm right on the water, is the New York City skyline. So yes, to answer your first question, I would have seen it as plain as day as I'm sitting right here looking at you. I would have just looked up and I would have seen what was going on. I would have seen them. But what's going on in front of me right now as we speak, is we is It's America's two hundred and fiftieth birthday, and all these fucking military ships are here. I'm watching some really cool fucking ships. Like what is that thing? I mean that that thing has got to make the nineteen early nineteen hundreds. This is like, listen, old warship. I don't know. It's an old bucket of bolts. It's rusty, it's an A four to one one written on the side of this ship. And it looks like it's Milly Terry and it looks like it's bad to the bone. I don't know if it's an aircraft carrier. I don't know what this thing is. But it's in the middle of the Hudson River and I'm staring the fuck right at it right now. Anyway, whatever that is. But anyway, because it is America's two hundred and fiftieth, people are coming here because they're doing extra extra fireworks. They're doing them on both sides of the river, which means the side that I face from New Jersey to New York is going to have a lott of motherfucking people here tomorrow, with their families and their kids and their cousins and their uncles and their brothers. So everybody's gonna be coming here for the fireworks tomorrow, and I don't have a way out, Brody. For the first time in years, I am going to be trapped here for the fourth of July. Fireworks over the Hudson Never, I never, No, I'm never here on the fourth of July. You know where I'm always at the shore. I'm somewhere other than here. But now I've got to be here because I'm leaving from here Sunday morning, so i have no choice but to be here a less ya Kara, So what what I'm thinking of is yourself? Well, no, it's at ninety nine degrees with nowhere to go, I'm going start crazy in my apartment. Well you know what you can do. As soon as the fourth of July hits and the fireworks are going off, you can walk over to your buster and punch light switches and turn them on and off like you have fireworks in your apartment because there'll be that smooth, buttery feeling. How great is that? And by the way, the ship you just saw, the A four one one, Yeah, what is the Papalo Apens Paolo Apen. It's a Newport class tank landing ship, so tanks come off of it. Currently operated by the Mexican Navy. The ship has been an active service of fifty seven years. Yeah, so I guess they gave it to Mexico because it's old. But it it. It goes to floats and events and things. Well like this, it's here today and it's stationary right in front of my face, so other other things are passing by. More ships to come later. Anyway, I will take a quick break and then we'll get onto the topic that you started just now, which was about Sketchers. Sketchers. Okay, yeah, we'll be right back. It's my boy podcast. Before you start crushing Sketchers, I'm just mad about something specifically. Still love the sneakers, not a sponsor, would love them to be. I went to an event with Sketchers for sketches. You did, Yeah, and why don't you tell us about the event, and without trying to guess why I'm upset, So tell us about this event you went to so shortly after you destroyed them. On episode three eighty of the Brooklyn Boys podcast, I was invited by a friend of mine who's been working for Sketchers for twenty seven years. And he called me the next day and he said, oh, I did not destroy them. Are disappointed that the blue and orange og sneakers weren't available and they missed out on a huge marketing opportunity. So more to that story comes, so more more to come. Well anyway, so he's so so my guy Jason said, Hey, you want to come to this private event. We're having og Anenobi from the New York Knicks, the world champion New York Knicks, come to the store on Thursday, and he's going to be you know, photographed, He's going to do a press moment. He's going to be hanging out with the kids from the Garden of Dreams, which is basically gives underprivileged children, you know, amazing charity, gives them opportunities, look them up worthwhile cause anyway, the kids are going to be here from a school. It's going to be awesome. The refreshments will be served. We'd love to have you in attendance because as you know, and as we'll remind the slices right now and you know, if in case you didn't listen to episode three seventy nine, whatever Ogno he was wearing he's a spokesperson for Sketchers, and he was wearing his his his Nicks blue and orange sketchers on the night of the famous tip in for Game four where they came behind from thirty points and Jalen Brunson missed the shot, and then Og came out of nowhere and went boop to give the nit Nix the lead with him with a one second one point five seconds to go. And it's the first ever NBA champion who endorses sketchers to win an NBA championship. That is correct. So you have all these things going for it. It was like lightning in a bottle. And I said, well, fuck, yeah, I want to come. He goes, all right, great, I'm gonna put you on my I'm gonna pretend you're my part of my family. So he brought his family, his wife, his kid, and me and I showed up and I'm old, giddy and girly and like, oh, this is so much fun. So Og showed up. Og showed up. I put my bid, my request in for a pair of the blue and orange sneakers. When they come out, he took my size and he says, all right, we'll roll the dice. We'll see. He says, but right now they're one of one. Right now, we only made this one pair for Og. He's got several colors. He happened to be wearing those the night of the tip in. He changes them in between quarters, so he was wearing those blue ones. So he said, look, yeah, he goes, we can't catch up. So I said to him, I said, you know, my podcast partner, David Brody shipped all over you guys the other day. You did not say that, and I didn't. I did not shit on them. I said it was a missed opportunity. I said that. I said. My buddy said that he thinks that you guys needed to react much quicker than this, and you should have had them at the ready in production, and why weren't they already available? And so he couldn't answer those questions because that's above his pay grade. But because he didn't know they were going to win, he did, well, he didn't know that it was such an important shot that was going to tell him that we changed our podcast colors to Nick's rn't lu tell them not to match the sneakers, no, because we'd already brought them back to blue and orange, all right, right, right, So he said, So he said to me, Look, he goes, we were caught off card. He says, but we're we're catching up. We're gonna we're gonna try and mass produce these as quickly as possible. Now, look, they're still not out, and I don't know when they're coming out, but I did when they're coming out the moment is passing an update for that. I have an update for that. So Scary Jones doesn't know when they're coming out, Is that correct? That is correct? I don't. Oh, they might have. They might might have come out already, Scary. I told you three weeks ago when we talked about this, that they they put out on their Instagram page. Hey, go to our website and sign up for an email alert. Let you know when the sneakers are coming out, so you could you can pre order. But it wasn't a pre order. It was they send your email address. It wasn't an opportunity to pre order. You couldn't pre order, so it was it was it was false advertising. Anyway, that day day one, I get my email address and I said, let me know because I'm in baby. I want these sneakers, not just because of OG and the Knicks, because they're blue an orange and you know their Brooklyn Boys podcast colors. So I wanted a pair. And again I didn't know how much they were going to be, but at least let me know how much they're gonna be give me the chance to pre order. Well, I've been waiting, didn't see anything about it, didn't get an email, checked my spam folder every day. Nothing in the spam folder. Yesterday, yesterday. On the sketchers Instagram page, a beautiful picture of the sneakers, it says sold out. Wait now the original graphic says we're live, and then over it it look at here's the picture it says sold out with the red stamp. Boom. Now the thing that says we're live isn't on their Instagram page. So I never saw anything that said we're live, never got an email about it, and they sold out in a day. They made just enough to handle a few people, so they wouldn't get stuck with extras. So again I say, Sketchers, first of all, fuck you. Second of all, why wouldn't you make enough to last a few weeks? A month? New York has again millions of Knicks fans and you made what a thousand pairs? You could say like, oh, it's a limited run. Fuck you, I didn't get a pair. So more importantly, call your friend over at the Sketchers and see if you can get a sneakers, and see if There'say's laying around in our size because you and I know it's like we both wear the same size. Go get sneakers in our size two pairs, please, I'd appreciate that. Because they didn't let people know. They just put up wherever they put this we're live thing and they're sold out already. And then all the people on the Instagram page, you're like, I never got notified, I never got an email, I never got told about this, and they're already sold out. What kind of bullshit is that? Okay, I'm texting right now. That's some bullshit. Scary, it really is. Wow. I can't believe that this is the biggest seer story in America right now, that that sketches should be like, oh my god, we have a world champion wearing our sneakers, and you make a limited run, and you know who got the sneakers, don't you scary all the sneaker heads and the resellers, right, all the people that are never gonna wear them, don't put them in clothes to put on my shelf. Do your fucking sneakers, Put them on your feet and walk outside with them. Wow. I agree, with you on that. Wow, So now what so then are we fucked? Are we fucked? Over here? Well, unless your friend can hook us up and look, we're not going to cut a line because the line already happened. This isn't a scariest Mother's Day thing. This is like, hey, you gotta laying around or is it find out there's be another wave coming out? I did not get slices. How would you feel? Imagine you're like, oh, let me know when concert tickets go on sale and they never let you know and then it sold out? Bullshit. Yeah, that's a problem. I'm gonna text her right now, text Jason and and his wife names are we? Well, I'm gonna text. Is this the Jason I know? No, it's a different No. Okay, No, that's my boy. He'd have my back. I know I know he would. So yeah, I'm trying to I'm trying to where is this? All right? Well? All right, no one from Mike Frances No one needs to listen to you scroll all right? Now? That's my my sketches, ram slices. You know that. Uh. A few weeks ago, we talked about how Scary gave me a bucket of comic books with all his number one issues in it, and and a and a box of Mad magazines, which are humor magazines from the from the eighties and nineties. Mostly he's like, Oh, you gotta sell this to me. Boy, you got slaves for me. Let me take a couple of things. First, of all his comic books worthless. There's no number ones in there. It's a it's a bunch of trash. It's trashy trash that you'd find in the discount bin. So I don't know what I'm gonna do with them. I'm taking them to a comic book store and get him whatever I can for them. Trashy trash. There's some number ones in there, Yeah, number one ship. I think I got Fraggle Rock and number one. Oh my god, the lines are out the door of target for Fraggle Rock number one. Oh my god, isn't there when Wolverine man magazines. No, you don't have a number one Wolverine. You have number thirty four. That's not a number one. Yeah, I have the Wolverine number one. I have like ten of them there, worth three hundred dollars apiece. I may trade them in for light switches. However, the Mad magazines, the ones from the eighties and nineties basically worthless. Anything you look up you google it says they were mass produced. Nobody wants them. Yeah, however, I have a question for you, Scary, and I think every every young man listening to this podcast can't speak for women. The every young man listening to this podcast will relate to the story I'm about to tell. Yep, Scary, did did these buckets? Did these mad magazines exist? Did you have them when you lived at home? Yes? With your parents? Yes? Okay, Now, when I was a kid, I had to find creative ways like we all did back in the day when pornography was hard, hard, hardbound like magazines and videotapes. It wasn't like I was on your phone. You had to find creative ways to hydro porn. So Scary, I'm wondering why you stuck issues of Penthouse magazine in with your Mad magazines porn magazines mixed in with his Mad magazines that he must have put in there when I don't even want to touch them. They're gross. I got one here with Madonna on no see okay no, so I so nineteen eighty five, Scared those are collectors items. Those are collectors items. And so you've got hold on No, no, you've got ones in here that are not collectors items. I have, they're both. There's a there's a Madonna. When Madonna posed for Penthouse and Madonna Badud. When Madonna put post for Penhouse and Madonna posed for Playboy, those were collectors items. In fact, he it comes a plot twist, and this is a true story. You know how I obtained those both of those. Yeah, my mother bought them for me. No, when they were brand new in nineteen eighty five, because it was Madonna and whatever, and she, my mom was cool like that. Now, nothing nefarious has been done to these magazines. But I got news for you. I guarantee you those two magazines right there are probably worth ten times more than the entire bit of men magazines and comic books. Well here's the problem. It looks like you tried to trace Madonna's face because there are pen digg ins of eh and shit, I did I remember that. I was wanted. It was we were given a project to draw a celebrity in school and took I took that magazine and I traced Madonna. Oh fuck, So wait, there's pen marks. Yeah no, there's not penmarks. It's like dig ins likes holy shit, and you put her mouth on the side of her face. Let me see, what did I do? You can't see it. You can't see it because the diggings are like off off, they're off to the side. Penhouse. Yeah, Penhouse. That that's the that's the thing. And then and you have the Playboy one too, it's upstairs. I didn't but that's all I have. There might have been one other one. There's one other one. Yeah, Denise Williams random, No I think that. No, it's not the Lease Williams. It's some random Penhouse magazine. I'm not touching it. Yeah, no, it was. There was a reason why I own that. I never, I was never. I know there was the reason. Yeah. Now your own room is the kiddy. You share it with your brother, so I had I shared my room with my brother. But yeah, no, God, that's awkward. Yeah no, I definitely, I definitely those got caught up in it. I don't know how they asked your own d of these magazines. I don't know how those magazines. So they landed in between the mad magazines, Is that right? That's correct. Yeah, like you were hiding them in there. I might have just yeah, I might have. They just might have to put. I used to put my magazines in like, uh, Sports Illustrated. I'd put the magazine inside the other magazine. That's so funny, Like, oh, I see it was like the magazine my father. Yeah, my father used to have porn movies on VHS tapes. Right, but he would label I told this story before. He would label them shit. You know, I would never watch so like he would like the World at War was like one hundred hour documentary on on on World War two, and so he labeled like six tapes the World at War one, two three. I was like, I'll ever watch these things. Except one time it was in the machine and I was like, why was my father watching this? And I hit play and I was like, oh my god, it's all porn. So my father would label the tapes on the labeled the table. I wouldn't watch. That's hysterical. Listen when we had back when we had physical media, that stuff was right there. You know. Now you could just just shut your laptop or shut your close the browser on your phone and clear your cookies, right, I guess. But that's what was the last time, include your cookies? Watching too many I was looking at too many cookies. Did you ever clear your cookies when your brother was in the room? No, no, never, no stop no no no. So yeah, I mean when we had physical media, you know, there were different ways to get around that. I guess for me, it was hiding the two playboys I owned in between the Mad magazines. But but then the question would be if my mom bought it for me and she knew I had it, why did I hide it? I think I just hit it from everybody else. I don't know. I didn't want your brother and sister seeing him. I guess. All right, So Scary Gismon has been and says, just sell all this crap, just sell it, just get it out. I gotta get it out of it doesn't fit in my motif. It's not part of my motif. Yeah. Well, actually Lorena loraindo wanted that. Loraina wanted Yeah, Loraina, of course. Yeah. Also in the Mad magazines, I assume Scary wants me to sell it for him. An autograph copy autographed by weird Al Yankovic that he and I both got autographed from weird Olt in studio. Oh is that? Am I supposed to be selling that for you? Yes? Oh no, that is the wrong answer. I'm gonna I am going to gonna want Who's gonna want? Weird Owl loves Hey scary love, It's personalized. Yes, okay, then give me give me that one back. He got an autographed copy of Mad magazine, his favorite magazine, autographed by his favorite performer, weird Owl, even though he grew up on Nicki Minaj, and he wants me to sell it. No, man has no soul, I have no money. Sun Light switches started on light switches, no than your switches? Is you actually no come to think of it, I'll take that back. I'll take that. That's the that's the one I'll take back. Oh that one I don't like. You know, I gotta be you know, this is gonna sound. It's weird. It's gonna sound. It's gonna sound crass. I value photos with celebrities and artists a thousand times more than I do an autograph. I never and slices hear me out. I know there's a few of you out there. Autographs don't mean shit. It's just so what they put their pen on a piece of paper, like I have autographs. I met them autograph pictures like Sabrina Carpenter. You know some of these Selena Gomez, some of these big celebrities, they autographed a picture. You know, they have the headshot of themselves and they would just autograph that. I don't get off on on having an autographed picture. Get off on Pentast magazine. Hey, hi, I was waiting for you to do that joke. That's why I set you up with it on purpose. Oh what was that? I got a bell? You got a bell? Now I got a bell. Well, you know what I do another podcast, a lot of superhero in Star Wars podcast, Half Friends from California, And whenever I make a funny pun, they ring the bell. So sometimes I think I say something funny and they won't ring the bell. So I got my own bell so I can ring my own bell when I say something I think is funny. We did Marvel Movie Talk last night. We were talking about in the latest episode of the latest three episodes of X Men ninety seven season two. If you're an X Men fan, check that out. I did post about it. So yeah, I mean, if we're talking about I forgot what we're talking about. Autograph autographs. Yeah, Like like an autograph doesn't mean anything to me. Like if, like you know, let's say Dwight Gooden and Dallas Strawberry were to sign a ball baseball and give it to me, I'm like, Eh, good thing you clarified what kind of ball they were signing. No, I would rather take a picture with them, and I think that most people would these days too. Autographing is so like from the sixties and seventies. I don't know. I just I'll tell you what I like getting on. Maybe I'm just desensitized to it. But does it mean anything to you whene just autograph something. It's just it's when it when it when. I'll tell you when an autograph means something to me. And I don't know why anyone wants my autograph unless they want to forge my signature, because I'm I'm just the guy who does a podcast with scary anyway. I like when I used to work at the radio station and I would go next door to to Q one, O four three, to classic rock station, and I would have classic rock artists sign my albums. Right, So when Kiss came up and they signed my kiss albums, or when def Leppard came up and signed my albums. I have those framed which I which you know, on the wall here in one of the rooms. I like that. I like I can look at the album cover and go I met him, I grew up listening to him. He signed my album. But I'm not excited about like, oh he signed it for the signature part of it. It's just that it's a reminder that I don't mind her, right, and it's better looking than putting up a picture of me with the band. I don't want want to see that around the house. Fair enough, But yeah, I don't value autographs at all, anyone, at any time. Whatever. It's like whatever, But okay, but it's weird. I know, I give give me that fucking magazine back. I changed my mind, and it's weird. Hows on the cover. He's on the cover of the magazine. It's he illustrated. Okay, you're right, leave us a talk back now. I really think it's scary trying to sell this weird. I like, I just guilted in to keep it, and it's personalized. It's personalized to me. I forgot about that. I thought, for whatever reason, I remembered him just like signing. No, I just I literally just signed it. Then he said it's scary. Yeah, all right, then give me that back, give me that back, your old pal, your pal, I know, okay, treasure that all right right? Talk about treasure scary being all right, Bruno Mars, all right, when we come back, when you talk about how scary is is angry at something you shouldn't be angry at, talk about that? What do you? What? What?
00:33:54
Speaker 3: What?
00:33:55
Speaker 1: What? What?
00:33:55
Speaker 2: Now?
00:33:55
Speaker 1: Bertie? It's always something with you. I'm gonna set the stage and we can tell you why he's man, and then I would play some audio, follow up audio, and I want to talk about the grammar Police on someone regarding this topic. A few weeks ago, during the Knicks playoff run, Elmo lovable three and a half year old Elmo, the cutest muppet every year he turned three. Yeah, who as I used to call many years ago before I knew any better, Red Grover. But he's not Red Grove, Red Grover, Red Grover. We want Elmo over right. Emmo likes Scary Jones, even though Scary Jones doesn't like Elmo anyway. Scary was upset that Elmo said something that Elmo meant no harm in saying. Now, he was probably wrong in saying it, but he's a three and a half year old muppet. He came out and Scary you can dress why, I'll just say it. Yeah, he said the Knicks are playing the Spurs in the finals. Basically, he said good luck to both teams, you know, yay, yeah, see, he said good luck to everybody. Yeah, yeah, good luck. Got very upset about this, as did I and Scary one on the radio and ripped Elmo. Scary, what was your problem with them? My problem is Almo is from fucking Sesame Street, and Sesame Street is in New York City. And by the way, don't tweet us or text us or whatever, okay, and try and tell us otherwise. Look it up. Sesame Street takes place is set in New York City. That's unquestionable, Okay, as long as we don't want, we're gonna that's the basis for the argument, which it is, so Almo needs to be a fucking nick fan man and just say what it is. Don't be a flip flopping muppet. Fucking mother bastard flops, you know, that's the kill. And this and That is a microcosm of what is wrong with society because everyone just sits there and nobody wants to take a path. Nobody wants to take a lane. They just want to be like, Oh, let's be friends with everybody. Kumba yah. No, Oh, it's not like that. In every facet of life, folks, at some times you gotta make a decision, you gotta grow a set, and you gotta stand for what you believe in. And Elmo did not do that at the time he needed to most He fucking just just buried under the rug. He both sides it, he both he goes, oh, I'm from both He fucking politicianed it like a lot a lot of politicians, like they gonna flip people. People had his head on a stick in the parade. Yes, they put his head on a fucking spear, And they're walking through the streets with Elmo's head on a spear. Because this muppet didn't stand for what he believed in. There is no sugarcoating it. You're a goddamn minok fan. You are from Sesame Street, New York City, bitch. Okay, So Elmo represents children from all over the country who don't care or realize he's a New Yorker. So to him, to everybody, all little kids, Elmo's a three year old muppet represents peace and harmony and good sportsmanship. And and so I understand if he rooted if it was the Mets and Yankees, and he was like, good luck to both teams. Okay, that's yeah New York's. But if it was the New York it was like if it was the Mets, and like, let's say the Braves in the NLCS, right, and or the Phillies, They're like, oh, I let's say all get along. I will be bothered by it. I don't know if I would be mad at the muppet. Anyway, I got pissed. But anyway, the follow the follow up to the story, Yeah, the PR department apparently went into overdrive to fix this problem. So Elmo was going on TV shows doing interviews, uh, talking about the the USA hockey team, all right, and so he Elmo put out a video which I think is one of the funniest things I've seen in many years. Yes, and if you haven't seen, I'm gonna play it. You can look on the Sesame Street account. And I hope I don't tell before you play it. He's wearing World Cup shirt, right. I was gonna say, Now, keep in mind, Elmo can get away with this because he's rooting for America. Now, Elmo exists in other countries, but it's fair to say he's an American. Why wouldn't he root for America. But here is the video, which is effing brilliant.
00:38:16
Speaker 4: Just to be clear, Emma wants tell your Russo to ruin. Okay, loves everybody. Just to be clear, don't make this a thing.
00:38:28
Speaker 1: Thanks you love.
00:38:30
Speaker 3: You and love you and Russo and everybody is playing.
00:38:37
Speaker 1: Don't make this a thing. But but but yeah, because he because he had his ass handed to him. He knows better, that bitch, that motherfucker. He he knew what that we were, the whole country would be coming for him had he not come out on the side of Team USA. He was yeah, shitless. He was shitting his little muppet panties. Can I play one more time? Yeah? Please do? It's entertaining.
00:39:10
Speaker 4: Just to be clear, Emma wants Team USA to win. Okay, ever, loves everybody. Just to be clear, I make this a thing.
00:39:22
Speaker 3: Thank you, and one loves you and I love you and I love you and Tim Rusi and everybody.
00:39:29
Speaker 1: Is playing just ever and you know, but even in that statement, he still had to fucking get it in there. I love you, I love you despite everyone he doesn't want them to win though he doesn't want to win. Clear he made it very clear, t Usa clear right right, and loves everybody. Yes, should be clear right, So he doesn't love you any less that you played for fucking Portugal my almost decent right? What? Yeah? I love decent. That was good nice three years old. Don't be mad at me.
00:40:05
Speaker 4: Just to be clear.
00:40:06
Speaker 1: Okay, Hey, is Ronaldo and Messi the Wemby of soccer? Because I believe it's quite exciting. I had one more almost, can you just give one? Almost? This person on that on the video wrote stop edging him on? Oh god, so I wrote, I think you mean egging. Yeah, you're egging him on. Edging him on? Edging means you're you don't know what edging means. Yeah, edging is filthy, open up that Madonna Penthouse magazine. Yeah, edging is complice. So I thought that was very funny. Uh mal okay, all right, so go on with the soccer thing. No, I just I'm thinking that I'm they just FIFA has a love affair with just a couple of players, Theape guy, the guys that his name Bombapop, Hanson, all right Hanson, uh and and uh and Ronaldo who's now at the dusk of his career, probably his last World Cup and uh what's his face? Yeah, the guy MESSI. So the point is, they don't get called for fouls. They don't get called, they don't get cards, they don't get these yellow cards put against them. They instead when anyone goes so near as to touch them, like yesterday with the in Portugal, they had to find a way to give him a fucking free penalty kick. I don't think I've seen one of those in all these matches thus far. But Ronaldo got to go to the line and just pretty much steal a point. That just sucks because I feel like FIFA is just I don't know, I have I have thoughts. I have my feelings about FIFA and and and you know what they're what they're all about as an organization. But they want to see they want to see who they want to see in the round of four, the round of eight, whatever. So I feel like they don't want tam Usa to be anywhere near it.
00:42:04
Speaker 4: No.
00:42:04
Speaker 1: I I think first of all, the referees are from other countries than the ones playing, so I don't think that's the case, but they're they're all paid by FIFA. Yeah, but these are the greatest referees on the planet, except for the ones that we wouldn't let into our country because a couple of them were not allowed. I don't think. Look, celet the stars in every sport get away with stuff. Would you imagine having a World Cup where Ronaldo was kicked out? Or you deserve it? They need to sit. I don't want to get into sports. I know we're not a sports podcast's say yet, but people get special treatment. I think why celebrities don't go to jail. It's why. It's why, uh, because people want their They they want what they do. They want the music and the movies and and people are like, oh, you know what if you did this community service, he doesn't isn't going to jail. Yes, people want the entertainment. Fact her, that's why one do celebrities go to jail because you want a new album by that band. So you're like, let them let them clean up the highway for a mile and then they need be all right, right Michael Jackson, Oh, I'm sorry. He was never convicted, right, No, he was not what may be talking about, although allegedly they're making a sequel to the first Michael Jackson movie. Yeah, that'll be interesting. I'd like to see it. Yeah, are we taking a break here, We're gonna take a break. And as we go to breaker, I got a response from my boy Jason at sketchers. He says, oh good, And then I got to talk about Philadelphia again. Oh no, save it after the break. It's just very quick. I'm just kidding. Then I'll talking about Philadelphia again like I did last week. That's hey guy, Hey, hey buddy. They released a pre order which sold out immediately. That was the pre order. Yeah, they didn't tell anybody. Don't worry. I'm trying very hard to get you a pair. When they come in a pair up pair? Well yeah, I mean, I'm his boy. You're not gonna wear them. You'll wear them one day? Should how do how do you? But he doesn't know you, He does not to know me. Say my part, my co host are the Brooklyn Boys? Tell him we changed our colors to match the sketches. Sneakers. He never got notified. He's very disappointed, and he wants to know if there's gonna be another Uh you know, so, how do how do I get two pairs out of him? That's not saying, hey, my boy, my co host is a huge w Sketchers, but this isn't.
00:44:33
Speaker 4: This isn't.
00:44:34
Speaker 1: You don't ask for the second pair. You say what I said? What I said? He goes he's a big fan of Sketchers. He's been talking about these sneakers for weeks, right, he put himself on the mailing list on day one, never got notified. He wants to know if there's gonna be another release, another wave of sneakers. He's okay, leave it up to him to go. What size does he wear? Okay? Right, But if he doesn't do that, then the housekeeper is just gonna throw out, Oh, we're gonna talk about your housekeeper when we come back to the Brooklyn Boys podcast. We will be right back. We're rolling along here here, What happened to your housekeeper? What happened your sneakers? Estella? Yeah, she's great. I love her. Yeah, she's the best my housekeeper. I've had her for over twenty five years now, has Loraina met Estella and has she tried to replace her with a younger, more attractive one. Haha? No, No, Estella is the best. I love her to death, except for that one one. Except for that one time where she threw away three pairs of my sneakers, But that was a whole other thing. And they weren't the og Ananobe New York Knicks ones though you didn't have them at that point. No anyway, but yeah, no, but why we delayed today? We couldn't do the podcast today? What happened? She she accidentally unplugged my mic processor. I didn't know that. She must have gotten the vacuum caught next because I have a whole rackmount of these wires and shit. And I guess she must have been you know, she rolls the you know, she comes in here and she cleans the the carpet she with with the dice ino and she must have did it's a vacuum scary. She must have sucked up the wire. It must have unplugged either way, so that I had a troubleshoot. And then there was and then my my roadcast or pro was also not working unplugged, but it was again, I can't fault her for it. What the hell does she know? You know? I mean, brody, It's okay. It was a minor setback cost us ten minutes. It's okay. We're good. I found out what was wrong. We're on the air and her place in life. Not to go near your stuff. You can smack around, No, stop it. She needs to clean the studio. The studio is part of the house. So yes, so I I remember that commercial. I don't have the audio here. Remember we had the commercial hom Aglow. They cleaned my house for nineteen dollars. So we fired our housekeeper, remember that woman. Yes, that's so funny that we fired our housekeeper, because that's what everyone wants to hear. Yeah, you should tell you should tell us stout, you go back, unplug my shit again. I'm hiring home Aglow. She was Almoso replaced by a roomba that one time. But okay, Well, do you know what country she's from? I don't. Well, you're not good on geography and places around the world. But you if I told you Victor Orbon used to be the dictator ish leader of a country, would you know a country? No, I've never heard of his name before. Never heard of Victor orbon No of what country? You don't know? President? Okay, so he was the president of Hungary, he was until recently lost the election. Okay. However, when people think of Hungary, the country of Hungary, what other country do they think of? Right? People often confuse them. In fact, there was a time our president confused then to which reminded me that people always confuse them. Why because of hungry grounds like food, right, and then you're like food exactly, So you're hungry for turkey, right, right, that's been an age old thing, right, that's correct. However, I didn't know this, but a couple of years ago they officially changed their name. They did. They are officially not Turkey in the World Cup. Yeah, they're sick of the bullshit. They are Turkey ya, Turkey a Turkey Turkey y aa. We talked about this on the on the Big Show Turkey A No. We we just were like, it sounds weird to say, but I mean, listen, gotta respect the country. Do I think it was the worst thing in the world for them to be associated with hungry?
00:48:43
Speaker 3: No?
00:48:44
Speaker 1: No, it was the fact that they were of food. They were they didn't want to be associated with the bird anymore. Okay, No, that's what that's what they that's what it is. I know, I know what it is. That's what it is. But who can you know. I think that's why the country of Goose doesn't exist anymore. Goose that was a country. Yeah, it was next to duck Duck. Okay, all right. Anyway, so Turkey is not turkey anymore. You can't call it turkey. It's turkey A it's turkey a turkey. It's probably more like turkey a turkey A. Who are you Americans? Like turkey A turkey areway over here. So yeah, this might learn because of the World Cup. Now, speaking of things, you need to know if you are in the Philadelphia area. Again, by the time you hear this, it may be too late, but you'll have to let us know if you found any Our president tweeted out a picture of a gas station. It's an AI generated photo and it says Freedom Fuel Network. And it's a red, white and blue gas station with red, white and blue American flags all over. Very patriotic looking and according to his tweet, he said, the Freedom Fuel Network is lowering their gas prices for the fourth of July, doesn't say for how much. Twenty five locations. Now Twitter has blown up, x has blown up with people trying to figure out where in Philadelphia or in Pennsylvania. In Philly, he said, Philadelphia, these twenty five Freedom Fuel Network gas stations are. The problem is number one, there is no such thing as the Freedom Fuel Network. That's not a company. So everyone's going where are they located, Where they're located? They got to Everybody wants to get discounted gas, but they don't know how much, guesses or how much it's discounted, or where they're located. Well, now people are saying it's not an actual Freedom Gas Network. It's just twenty five gas stations that got together and agreed they're going to lower their prices for the fourth of July. Nice. Nobody knows where they are, so people are frantic on Twitter trying to figure out where they can save a few bucks on the fourth of July. You should have gas before the fourth of July, because I went to Costco yesterday. Scary, I thought Costco on the Thursday. Well I went on Thursday, so it was a few days before the fourth of July. So I went on the second, fly second, excuse me. The lines were to the back of the store. Why do you think that was hey, because everyone's stocking up for grilling and you know, for whatever. I say that facetiously. Yeah, I was going to pick up my dog's prescription because they have a pharmacy for dogs there. But I went, I'm like, thank god, I don't have to wait online. But I'll talk about the pharmacy woman because that's another I'm gonna rant about her. I think today it was Mayhem. So I don't know what's gonna happen. By the time you have this podcast, we'll probably know. But I don't know if the President mistakenly thinks is a freedom fuel network of gas stations. My point is, if there's twenty five gas stations that are doing something that nice on the fourth of July, I hope you find them, Philadelphians and you save some money. Let us know if you found one and how much they lowered the price, because saving money on gas right now is a good thing. Hey. I went to cityb show the other night in Hoboken on the you know they have that rooftop there. I've been going for you. Oh yeah, and I saw something that I have not seen with my own eyes in years. Your penis exactly that, you know. Insert jokes here they write themselves. Just so. A guy comes in with a bunch of his buddies. The guy had to be m mid thirties, and he was with it was with some guys, and it was with girls, mixed companies. Okay, he orders a beer. They do around the beers whatever or whatever it was, and they you know, they have cans up there, so they hand them the can. Oh, the women the cans. Yeah, of course the women had cans. Yeah. Anyway, they hand him a can of beer and he turns it on its side, takes out a key, slits it in the side, slits the side of it, and shotguns the fucking beer. You all know that. Everyone knows. That's how you shotgun a beer, right, You turn it on the side, you put a slit in the side, and then you put it up to your mouth and you suck the fucking beer out of the side of the can. Who hasn't put their mouth up against the slid? My god, how the I mean, how the fuck old are we? How old are we people? Yeah, you're in your mid thirties at this point they do a six stand. So my question to you, Brody and the slices is how old is too old to be shotgunning a beer? I think I think eight. See, I think twenty five is to cut off twenty eight I was. I think I think twenty five is a good cutoff. If you're older than twenty five and you're still shotgunning beers, I think you got other problems. But this guy, if you're well, if you're at a party and your bros Are like it's a challenge or whatever, it's different. Somebody hands you a when he goes shotgun it.
00:53:59
Speaker 3: Do you do it?
00:54:00
Speaker 1: If you're in a bar, in a public bar, That's exactly what I meant. Yes, that's what. That's what I'm saying. You're in a fucking bar, and it's not even a frat bar. This is like city b show. It's like an older crowd and you're on a roof. It's a different vibe up there, and this motherfucker shotgunning a beer. Please do you get any beer on the floor? Was yes, of course he did. Of course, you can't just shot I mean it's impossible to not get beer on the floor. But I mean, really, and with the women impressed? Were they all like they weren't? They laughed, They're like, I'm like, wow, he got really dressed, Like what was he dressed like? He was in his after work clothes. He had a suit, he was wearing his fucking now the fucking puffer. You know what do you do? The JP Morgan puffers those finances. He's like a finance bro and with a short sleeve, short sleeve button down shirt on. He was one of those guys. He didn't have the puffer on, but he was like, you know Chino's and you know it's it's the the blue and tan, you know, the blue shirt with the tan Chinos finance. Did he high five his bros after that? Yeah? He did, he did. He was a little loud, he was a little rowdy, but still ah Man classless at thirty thirty five years old. That's that's yeah. I mean I don't know. I mean, slices, are you doing that at thirty five forty? Are you you sliceopping to be a canon popolic at a fancy place? I mean, if you're at a tavern with motorcycles parked outside, it's all right. I just find it so juvenile. I don't know. This is a fan this is a fancie place, Scary goes. You know, it's not fancie. It's not fancy. It's okay, it's I mean normal light switches. But still, yeah, exactly, all right, we'll be right back, oh with Scary and Brodie. So should I tell you about my the woman at the pharmacy. I'll tell you about the woman with the pharmacy. So I go to the Costco pharmacy and I had never gotten a dog prescription there before, and so it's it's this whole it's the whole back wall. It's like it's a huge wide thing. And it says prescriptions when you when you first walk up on the left side, right where the aisle ends. And I wait in line and I get there and it says, oh uh it says prescription. Uh uh oh you want to drop off a prescription, you have to go all the way to other end. Uh. I'm like, oh, maybe putting a sign there because it's such a huge fucking space, Hey go that way, because you wouldn't have looked all the way down the other end. But anyway, I go to the other end and a woman is there, and she says, I give it a prescription. Now, my my dog's name is Mutsi m O O t z I. Now names that end in I scary typically are what sex names? I was just gonna say Italian. Yeah, no, not last names, first names, first names and then I is female right right? Yeah? Like fefe Like like if your name is Kelly, if I if I said my name is Kelly k E L L I, if my dog, you'd be like, oh it's a girl, write a little heart over the eye. Yeah, you know name like boy dog Kelly would be with a y typically right listen, it's an Irish dog. Could be a Kelly with no boy Okay, not with an eye anyway. So she sees, she goes, Mutsie, h has he had his medication filled here before?
00:57:21
Speaker 4: So?
00:57:21
Speaker 1: I said she? And no, I said politely. It wasn't rude about I said no. She she was oh she, oh, okay, has she had her? No? Okay, by the way, if you said your dog's name was Mutsie and I didn't, and I didn't know any better. She looked at the prescription. Okay, she was reading it off the I personally wouldn't would wouldn't know if it's a boy or girl. But okay, Putsie is reading it off the prescription, difference to Mutsie with an eye. Again, not that Muosie is a common female name, but it ends in an eye, you'd think. All right, So I no, no problem, I said, girl, I said, girl, Okay, I said no. She so shees, I have to you know. Are you you're a customer here? I said, yes, which I am. I'm a Costco member. So she goes, uh, uh, give me the dog's last name is on the prescription. She puts it in phone number, Give my phone number, address, give her my address. She was, okay, huh, you're not in the system. Are you sure you're a customer here? I go, yeah, here's my Costco card. Oh no, I meant, a customer at the pharmacy. Well you didn't say that. She just, oh, I have to create an account now, scary. I had to get to pickle ball, so I had I had twenty minutes for this woman to take care of me, and I had to get to pick a ball. So I need like seven minutes to get to pick a ball roughly. Okay, So I said, all right, yeah, no problem, create an account for me it's great, just and can okay? She puts it in tes Okay, now I need your full name, give my full name, and what's your phone number? I said, the same as the dogs, the same phone number. Dog doesn't have her own phone number. Just I'm not on that screen. I need your phone number again, so I give her the phone number again, I go, I go, well, I just thought it was silly you asked me about my dog's phone number because she's not old enough to have her own phone. I make a joke and she looks at me. She goes, I don't know how old your dog is. At what age does the dog get their own phone? Can you answer me that question? What?
00:59:10
Speaker 3: How?
00:59:11
Speaker 1: How old does the dog have to me to get their own phone? Give her the phone number and she goes date of birth? I give my day to birth and shees, oh, it didn't take. Can I get your phone number again? Phone number again? And she goes, okay, date of birth. She goes, okay, uh, Gay, your phone number again. I just gave it to you. I gave it to her three times. So then she says, uh, when when does your when? When does he need to start taking this many? Oh? My god? She goes back to he. So, I said, still a girl dog. Well, I didn't know that. I remember. We had a whole conversation about She and like you, I don't. I didn't remember. You don't remember. It's like two minutes. It was three three. My phone numbers ago. No sense of humor. She was, Okay, I'm creating an account for you. Are your account's created? Great? Can I get the medication now? Oh? I'm sorry? She goes. She goes, do I have permission to text you if we have prescription updates for you? I said, yeah, that's fine. So she says, I great. I said, but I don't know if I would need prescription updates. I'm just gonna come and get the medicine. I'm gonna, you know, know in advance, you're gonna have it. I said, you haven't stock? Right? Yeah? Oh great? Then she says, all right, should we text you when it's ready?
01:00:31
Speaker 4: So what do you mean?
01:00:32
Speaker 1: Oh, well, now that I've created an account for you, it's going to be twenty minutes to a half hour. We have to put it together and put in the jar and label it. Oh my god, I said, twenty three minutes. I go, why don't you start the process of making the medicine. Have one of these other people at standing around? Why aren't they fulfilling the prescription? Why are you created a profile so they can't multitask? No, it's just we have to create a profile for you before we can give you. Then now they've got to go in operation order, and this is the order of their operation. That's correct. I said, well, you have my prescription. You know I'm taking the medicine. Why couldn't you have them start making a medicine. That's not how it works, yes, sir. Also she yelled at me. He yelled at me at one point because in Costco it was uncomfortably warm because there's twenty people in the store. But when you so she's in like she's in a window, like a medical office window with the sliding glass. Yep. When I would stick my head in the window, the air air conditioning was much cooler. So I kept sticking my head in the window because it was cooler, just kicking sir. Can you back up please? Oh right, And every time she turned away, I stuck my head because it was cool. So finally she goes, why do you keep sticking your head the window? I said, because you have better conditioning than we have out here. I'm hot. I didn't think i'd be waiting this long. Well, excuse me, sir, but I have to create your profile. Now, I get that, But you didn't need to enter my phone number four times. Well, one time was for your dog. No, I understand that. Oh my god. It was the worst. So I ended up leaving without the medication after all that, because she'd enter my phone number three time and she couldn't get my dog sex right. And then she said, do you make the medicine? How do you not make the medicine? Yeah, oh we have to. It takes time to put it together. Scary. The prescription was for twelve pills. You couldn't put twelve pills in a bottle and stick a label on. That takes twenty minutes. There was nobody waiting, scary. There's nobody behind me, there's nobody in front of me. Ridiculous. So Leslie go fuck yourself, Leslie, Fuck you, Leslie, And you know what, you have my phone number? Fucking call me if somebody tells you. I said this, Yeah, all right. Anyway, So my dad and I went to lunch today and he's the best you know, sometimes there are places that are tradition, old school. I mean, no matter where you're living in this country, you know there's these old school og spots that will bring back a lot of memories and a lot of Oh don't say, ohg it reminds me of the sneakers. I'm like getting okay that those it's not a foregone conclusion yet that you're not kidding. Well, I know you you'll get one, pairent. It won't be, but it's it's looking pretty bad for you. So but right back, No, I'm just saying it'll be. I will find out, but it's gonna be weird for me. Update this. Oh god, it's me going in dipping into the well for second pair when he's doing me a big favor. Wolf anyway, No, just tell him, Just tell him what I said. So, you know, a lot of times, you know my dad, I mean, in New York City, those quintessential places to like cats Is Deli right where everybody knows. These are Internet. These are you know, known around the globe because people like they come here tourists, so they want to go there. So anyway, so I'd like to sometimes my dad loves to wax nostalgic. He loves these old school places. So we found one today to go to. And it was this place that opened in nineteen oh four in Brooklyn called Barf I'm sorry, Ferdinando's Barf. Well, it was started as Ferdinando's for Cocheria and the guy made Carol Gardens. I've been there. They make a rice ball special, they do a rice ball special they do they do the Pinelli special, which is the they do this fried chick piece sandwiches. They do a lot now my father So so now they closed and they sold it to another company. But I heard that. But the company that bought it tapped into the old guy and his recipes and said, look, we're going to reopen in the same space. We're going to keep the integrity of the place. We're going to change the name from Ferndandos for Cocheria to bar Ferdinando in your name bar oh nice, remember Fernando's Hideaway. Right, So they but and and and then we're going to keep the recipes. So the Pinelli special and the you know, the the rice ball. They said they were going to do it the same way he did it, and they loo earned how to do it the right way, the way Fernando did. Now they recently reopened as Bar Ferdnando. I've been wanting to go, so I said to my dad this morning, you know what, let's take an early run over there. We'll go there at eleven thirty in the morning. We'll have a quick lunch. He goes, Oh my god, he goes, I know they reopened. Oh my god, I haven't been here in years. My father's looking for so he's looking excited, so so happy. He's like, oh, I can't wait. They also not only do they have the pinelli and the rice ball, but they had the best I've got a ma they had the best this, that and the other thing, all these Italian specialties and the seafood salad and this and that. So I said, I said great, I said, well, I'll meet you there. So we show up to Bar Ferdnando. I don't I don't want to rip this place, but I'm got some commentary here. So my father and I go there. I mean to enjoy complaining my father. My father goes, wow, oh my god, look at the original floors, original ceilings. Like he was like totally brought back in time. Yeah, but they actually, they gutted the place and they redid it and they made it beautiful. But they they made it beautiful in a way that goes with the decor of the place and kept the integrity of it. And sure enough, there was that Penelly special. There was all old pictures on the walls and a lot of stuff to wax nostalgic on, and yeah we have the original Penelli recipe. And and with that rice ball special, yeah we're gonna get that too. The only thing is that was pretty much all they had. Everything else they had was like these dainty little sandwiches, these like you know, they were They were very it was very very light on the menu. It was more like you're going to a bar that happens to have some light bites. Yes, like that. Right, So we sit down and my father's like, hey, today, well, where's the fight a lama? He was, Where's where's the what? He goes, Oh, And my father like hangs his head in disgust. He's like, they yuppified the place. It's all yuppies. So I sadly to report that even though they took the name, and even though they still have a couple of the specialties, delicacies made the original way. By the way, I will say the Pinelli was a fucking ten out of ten. It is exactly how I remember it on the same role. And and the rice ball special, which was which with the bolon A's which oh so fucking good with the cheese on it. Excellent, excellent all around. Aside from those two like quintessential dishes, the Staples, yeah, they had like a salad, they had like they didn't have like good shit. They didn't have like real fucking food on there. They had like carbs and breads and fakatchas, and it was stupid. It was basically like visiting your old childhood place and they bait and switch you, and it's like there's something that's not right. There's something. So we we literally scrounged to put together stuff that we could split that to eat for lunch. But it was all like, you know, it was right, which it was gentrified for the times it was. It was a little bit of a disappointment. They did not have like those classic dishes on a lot of the classic dishes. I wonder if the guy Fernando Fernando, yeah, Frederico, if he sold the place to them, and said, I'll only sell it to you if you promise to keep my two things. Yeah, or he did and they or they said, hey, sell it to Austin, We'll keep the two things. That's but but they had no intention of keeping the ship. But they had to, right, like they had to name the place after him, Like maybe there were other bidders for the place, like, oh, you know what, if you sell us, we'll keep selling your ship and keep your name in the title. Well, I do know for a fact that because they didn't want that place, they wanted the location, well, they wanted to make it a food food place for Caroll Gardens. Yeah, and that's what that's what my father said. He goes, it's not a school Italian anymore. He goes, Yeah, he goes, ah, he goes, it's all right, you know, Like we had an okay lunch. It was just like whatever. But it was more like we were so like what we wanted so badly to like remember those classic dishes that we used to love, coming all these Italian delicacies. And yeah, they did have an egg plant copponada, which no nobody it's so difficult to make. They did have that off menu special They had the pinelli, which tasted exactly that I remember it there, and the rice ball special, but outside of that, they had nothing to eat. It's like you're feeding fucking pigeons, Like, give me some fucking protein. People. There was no like chicken or veal or anything like that on the menu. It was all like, it's not the kind of place. It was like dainty, petty fors. It was like my father was like, what the fuck is this? You know your father, I can imagine, yeah, he was freaking out. Did he eat? To the manager? Oh no, no, well listen, we ate what was available to us. There was I guess these like this shrimp dish that had like this shrimp. You let your father, You let them down, You let your father. Well, listen, I didn't know. I didn't. He said no, he said, look, this was cool. It was nice to come here. But it's just insane the way you remember a place to be, no matter what that place is, and then the place changes and then they are under new ownership. But I give them the credit that they did master the art of those three solid dishes, the Copanada, the other two, the penellty. They did. They did the right thing there by learning the craft, knowing how to do it, and they still serve it. But outside of that, it's a completely different place. It's with a different menu. It sucks, all right, slices. What place did somebody fuck up that used to love would leave us a talk?

Speaker 4: Oh? Oh?
01:10:49
Speaker 1: What they had the audacity to email me Friendlies? Friendly? Friendlies emailed me, Yeah, where is his motherfucker here? I got it right here an email on Tuesday. On Tuesday, Skary, grab your podcast, Grab your spoons. Friendlies is celebrating National ice Cream Day in the sweetest way possible, and you don't want to miss it. On July nineteenth, it's National ice Cream Day. And then it comes to some kind of incentive to go in to see Friendlies. Would your team and or your podcast it slash slash podcast because it was a form letter, would your radio team slash podcast be interested in an ice cream themed food drop or an on air gift card giveaway to mark the occasion? So I figured I'd bring it to you there, David Brody, I'm like, uh, they come with a napkin crumbled up inside the ice cream, Like if these people knew how badly we fucking trashed friendlies a couple of weeks ago. They got no clue. But they said me this fucking form email from a publicist that it's got no clue that friendlies. You ain't so friendly. Take the take the gift card thing. We'll give it away to a slice and they want to do a food as the Beastie Boys would say, drop drop. Maybe I'll text this guy. Oh, he's not even in the market. Eric Coden not even get me what Eric code nine three six. I think that's aera code nine three. Think that's Dallas if I remember correctly off the top of my head. I have no idea exactly. Anyway, that being said, no wonder why they're not really they're not really listeners of the Brooklyn Boys podcast. Otherwise they would not be making piney Wood, Texas piney Wood and that's where he lives. Well, anyway, I'm out of here. I'm going on vacation. The next thing you hear will be a best of Brooklyn Boys, a classic episode. And speaking of before before we get to that, this is episode what three eighty three eighty one, So we've we've figured out that episode was it three seventy nine? Let me just confirm that. Yeah, and make sure it's three seventy nine. We have a we have a we're curious about episode three. I think it's three seventy nine. Let me just double check. We get out of here. Why few listeners? Nope, nope, three seven, three eighty Nope, not three eighty. Hold on, I see what number it is? Three seventy yep, yep. Scroll through your phone like Mike francessa some there you go. Something you told me to do earlier in the podcast not to do when you okay three seventy five, three seventy five, Yeah, and okay three seventy six. What about them three seventy five and three seventy six, Well, we've had the huge Elvis Durand podcast fold or bump since we're in there, right, huge and three eighty three seventy five, three seventy six, three eighty For some reason, they are substantially lower, although still higher than all of the other episodes we've done, right, I'm putting it so, I'm wondering if they got put in the envelope in the folder on a day when then a hundred other podcasts will put in and ours got moved down, and you may have missed it. So if you're listening in order, or you're listening to whatever it shows up in your feed from the upstream podcast folder, that's wonderful. But also subscribe to the Brooklyn Boys podcast so you don't miss an episode. And I know it's you're enjoying us and I appreciate that. And you don't always keep track of the numbers. I get that there, God, what number? I just listening to the next one. Yeah, go back and listen to the ones you missed, because you're missing some content that may be relatable to a future episode, right, so hofully, And so this public service. Also, if you're going to leave it talk back, don't leave it so soon. Let's wait. We don't want it to get erased by the time we listen to them and come back. So like the late part of the week July, like ninth, tenth, eleventh, leave your talkbacks. Yeah, don't don't leave them before July ninth, because we want to unless you're so moved by something, but you know, okay, but hold your fire, everybody, and let's keep it to less than four. Oh oh God, who sings that? Hold your fire? Who sings hold your fire? I don't know, somebody will. Somebody will calls out a firehouse and rush, rush sings. Hold your fire boys, boys,

01:10:47
