Speaker 1: Start Up, dot Up, Start Up. Brooklyn Boys, start Up, Brooklyn Boys, start up Up. They making noise Up.
00:00:13
Speaker 2: Start Up, dot Up, Episode.
00:00:16
Speaker 1: Three seventy six, The Brooklyn Boys Podcast. I'm Scary Jones, David Brooky. It's happy to be here. I'm happy to be here on a vacation. For me, it's happy to be here. It's happy. I'm talking about my penis. Wow, Scary on vacation this week. He's not. He's not on a beach. He didn't rent a house with a butler. No, he's not doing drugs with us. He's not doing drugs with his father. He's not buying bootleg swimsuits on the beach. I'm in town. He's not. He's not fighting about his first class airplane tickets. None of you'll have. So that means it's gonna be a boring episode because I've got nothing to complain about. Usually go on vacation on boogie. Yeah. I usually go on vacation. I come back with some observations. So now what am I going to come back with? Although I have, I don't know you didn't there was nobody making your food too slow at the airport. No, they didn't put American cheese on a meatball hero. Yeah. I mean your whole life is on his airports and flying and complaining about your trips. Oh well, this didn't talk about it. We have plenty of home improvement things to talk about. Oh I got I got fucked by Johnny Granite. Remember Johnny Granite? Is that your friend, your nickname for him? We didn't we talk about didn't we name him on this podcast Johnny Granit? Or is that just to me and my friends? Oh? You and your friend Johnny Granit? Fucking me but good, and we're gonna talk about that in a little bit. But it was Johnny Granite rock hard when he fucked you. You've got no clue. Okay, the shortcuts this guy took. This is the painter remember the painter guy. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, they I could do your douchew wash whatever that was, blmewash. This is the guy that can do everything because not only did he install the grant at the job properly. Yeah, not only do you install the granite but in the other place. But he's like, I could be your all, your everything contractor, and he decided to take on the painting. Here where I'm uncovering his mess every day, another mess, another bed, cut line on the walls, and you know it's it's insane how horrible he did. My friends are dubbing him Johnny Scissorhands because he's fucked up everything, everything he touches. But anyway, we'll get back to get down the second Brody. Right at the top of this podcast, I want to just say something that I saw about ten minutes before we signed on, and I'm incensed over this. I'm incensed over this reel. Was it a rat in your million dollar apartment? No, although I don't know. Can he get to the twenty third floor? I don't know. That's why people live at the penthouse because they stop at twenty three. They can't go any higher. Right, So yeah, anyway, Brody, don't comment until after this is over. You want me not to speak, I'm just I want do my best. I'm just I'll let okay, put it crack an egg on the top of your forehead and just let it, let it cook, let it cook, all right, all right, all right, I'm trying to remain calm. Remain calm, because you're about to hear it. This is a father and a daughter in a car together. She's an amazing discovery. Okay, don't go any further, don't go any further, any further. But I said this to you. No, I just came in my algorithm. I didn't open up your DMS yet. This this is part of you, right, okay, all right, so we both saw the same thing. Yeah, slices, I give you Exhibit A.
00:03:37
Speaker 2: So Brooklyn is introducing me to some new music she just found on Spotify.
00:03:41
Speaker 1: What's it called, Brooklyn name? It's called fat, but it's called it's from weird A.
00:03:46
Speaker 2: So so weird Ai. So AI made this is This is from weird Ai, and weird Ai made a song called fat called Fat.
00:03:56
Speaker 1: It's funny.
00:03:57
Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's supposed to be like the song like from others.
00:04:02
Speaker 1: So like, oh, so it's like thriller. They just replaced the.
00:04:06
Speaker 2: Clat so AI took like Michael Jackson songs and replaced the lyrics. So it's bad like thriller. It's thriller. Yeah, okay, all right, go weird This is weird Ai.
00:04:23
Speaker 1: Mm hmm, sounds familiar. How did you find this?
00:04:27
Speaker 3: All right?
00:04:27
Speaker 1: Friend? Our friend gave it to her. I found it. It's a weird Ai obviously isn't that awesome? Yeah, I think it's okay. We could faded out obviously, So I have a lot of issues with this. Well, the first, the first glaring one is it's not the song weird Al is parodying. Is not on Thriller That that's fat? Yeah? Oh, I didn't hear you say it. It's fat from It's Bad It's Bad Bad from nineteen eighty seven, not Thriller, right, Oh my god, Brody. As a parody artist yourself, how do you feel about how the future is going to experience your relics when they come across them online. Well, a lot of my stuff back in the day of Napster was all credited to weird Ol, even my parodies with a female singer, oh, which made no sense to me. They're like, hit make my boobies one more size, that's got to be weird Al because people only knew parodies from weird Al and they wrote every every business else. Weird Al is the ultimate parody icon, but everybody thinks he wrote every song. But how is she reading that word al as Ai? I'll tell you why, because lowercase L is the same as uppercase I. Yeah, right, But there's No, there's no periods next to the A and the I. A I stand for artificial intelligence. So when you're talking about you're talking about a generation that texts without punctuation, right. They don't. They don't use or periods or apostrophes. They they write the wrong your they're a mess. So I get that. But here's the thing. In order for this to be real, the father had to have heard her say it said, hold that thought. While I'm driving in the car, let me pull over, let me get my phone out, and let's reenact it like it's the first time I'm here. That's probably how it went down. He probably heard, he heard her say it, and he goes, Okay, don't go any further. I'm going to capture your stupidity. That's what he did. And you don't think there's a chance in hell this is. That's not fake. No, No, that's not fake. That's not fake. No. Shot. I do believe that's exactly why he started recording her, because he was wait, what did you call that? Hold on a second, and then then he started rolling on her. Okay, I believe that. Yeah, that weird al was on. I believe it was Late Show with Stephen Colbert last week and he said he said that people see his name online and they think it's because he was talking about AI writing whatever something like that. He said, yeah, you could look at my name and see weird AI and they made a joke out of it. So I don't know if if if they saw that and then did the bit, or they did the bit and other people to make the same mistake. But if that's factional, now I'm gonna fit that that's humanity and that's happening. If that's happening in their car, that's happening across from America right now. So with that said, I give kudos to the kid for liking the parodies especially, But here's the problem. She probably doesn't even know the song bad Like that's the that's the weird things like, oh wow, look at this funny song parody about a song from thirty nine years ago. I know it's Michael Jackson and maybe dad played it in the car. Maybe, But she's not gonna to me. She's not gonna appreciate the parody reference. She won't, she won't like, but she'd have to know the real song to know it's fun. She probably does. She probably knows bad, but she probably doesn't know the lyrical genius that weird Al is because she doesn't know the verses. I'm sure she doesn't know the words other than maybe the chorus. She's Oh my god, this is cute a minute, it's it's embarrassing. Of course, I give her. I give her a credit for liking the parody and liking weird Al, but reading it is weird AI. Look, we're in a generation of AI. I get it, and the dad does. Dad did a great job and not like punching the windshield and filming it. I get that it turned about his fan play. The kids do that to us. The kids do that to us all the time, right. I want to see the follow up video from this father and daughter where he tells her what a dipshit she is, not a dipshit, where he's mistaken. I'm trying to be nice. You know, when did you start that? Yeah? I know, I'm trying to go over a new leaf. It's my it's my June first resolution. June. Okay, uh, hear that slices. Brodie's trying to be nice. I'm trying. I would like to say that my kids would know weird Owl only because I talked about him a lot. But I could see where but this girl's younger and she's going up in an AI generation, so I get the confusion and it's hilarious. But nothing surprises me anymore on the internet. Nothing. The fact that the kid thinks it's it's weird Ai makes total sense to me. It's ridiculous. But yeah, yeah, and he doesn't make He doesn't make new albums where you like, buy an album and then see al written on it. Yeah, so all right, all right, we'll get off of that. No, it's just it wasn't that was not planned. I just brought that to the table because I happened to I'm like, what what are you talking about? And then we sign on. So here we are. Well, the real issue is I sent it to you a week and a half ago and you're not reading my message. I sent it to you for the podcast. I send it to you before last week's episode, and I was like, oh, he didn't watch it yet, so I'll wait till he. I have more than I have about three works were I have three weeks worth of David Brody dms that I have to go through and listen and watch all the like. Okay, speaking of which slices, I've talked you about this before. I love you, guys, and I love that you pick a video and you like David Brody needs to see this video. It's show him. I get that. I love that, But when you send me seven in a day and a half, I can't watch them all. I can't keep up, and I feel terrible to only send the cream of the crop best to the best. Ten out of ten's cream of the crop that rise to the top. I'll never get a pick a pick as a cop. But I don't really feel that way. That's the lyrics of the song. No, that's lyrics of the song. So yeah, just just tunt it down a little because I want to be able to watch and comment and interact with you. But when you send me seven and you know who you are, I love you. But slow down, buddy. Anyway, that being said, I did get some very funny videos this week, and I watched them. Unlike Scary who didn't watch this AI, I sent you a few that you loved it. Now, can we talk about other videos I sent you that that you haven't watched because I play them all right? No, I'm gonna I'm gonna play them because I know it's gonna go It's no, it's gonna go great. This is a video. I want to refresh everyone's memory because I didn't realize it was a series of commercials. Do you remember this commercial for a law firm?
00:10:59
Speaker 3: Of this If you've been in an accident that wasn't your fault, when your favorite attorney has a message for you, collision, calamity, catastrophe, are you innocent?
00:11:08
Speaker 1: Faultless? Above reproach?
00:11:10
Speaker 3: If you want money, you need an attorney, You need a bull dog. But finding one it's laborious, it's strenuous, it's stupefine. That's why you got to call the number on your screen. Now they'll help you connect to a legal expert. You have questions, they have answers. They know the legal leads, the lingo, the jargon, and the rgo.
00:11:28
Speaker 1: Theyn't even tell you how much money your case could be bought.
00:11:31
Speaker 3: Three hundred thousand, two million, eighty six, four hundred and ninety one.
00:11:35
Speaker 1: We'll cautu numbers, which ripping all sorts of numbers. Where did that arbitrary number fall out of? So this is Allied Injury Group and they've got sure it's not AIED, it's not AIED injury group. Yeah, AI, it is very good. So here's another one. Wait a second. He said that you need a bull. I thought the bull was Michael s Lamonsaw he's the bull. No, he's right, he's the ball. Well, this guy means a metaphorical ball. I can't believe this. Everyone that happen.
00:12:01
Speaker 3: In a motor vehicle accident that wasn't your fault, then you may need legal representation. And if you call the number on your screen now, you can be connected to an attorney who can tell you just how much your case could be worth, for free.
00:12:15
Speaker 1: And for a limited time.
00:12:16
Speaker 3: If you call now, you can get this elegant, luxurious gold watch with the money from your own case. To be clear, not for me. This is my watch. I own it and I like it a lot. You can't have it. But if you call and when your case the money is right, you can buy one of these watches for yourself, or any of these watches, or a different watch I've never even seen before, or no watch.
00:12:43
Speaker 1: The money is yours to do whatever it is you want you could buy.
00:12:46
Speaker 3: Call the number on your screen now you could buy an those could be apiece watch collapse.
00:12:52
Speaker 1: That's right, you can get this watch. I like how they show it. This is a video, so the picture is like a screen full of watches. You can buy all these, Yeah, any one of these or a watch I've never seen before. That's hysterical. He's you know what these You know they have to get they have to get more and more creative. I mean, you know the one that we do on the morning show and crush all the iheartstation's top Dog Law. We advertise with them. They're big sponsor of hours. The guy on the commercial is now voicing a commercial that we're playing. That's pretty much saying we heard it. We heard all the complaints. You guys are sick of this. You turn the channel when you hear these commercials come on the radio. Well let me tell you. You think you can do better, Well let's do it. It's the top Dog Law commercial challenge. One person is going to walk away and it's like some crazy prize they're offering, and they turned off to look this up. Yes, they turning it into a sweep steaks. They were like, you know, you're complaining about my commercials, but f you you could do better. Let's see. It is a brilliant way of flipping the entire campaign on its side and adding a wrinkle to it and making someone who hates it like it. Because now listen to all of the auditions to yes, brilliant campaign. Brody telling you there's a lot of money on the line. I think it's ten grand. Don't quote me, top dog law. I want to play one more commercial. I'll play more audio later. But listen to this, Tom, Listen carefully to the verbiage, and you tell me what's wrong, and I'll point it out. You'll tell me it's me being whatever. Here we go. What does Sketcher's new Arrowburst and Sketcher's Racecar have in common? Bote cut through the wind with hypersonic speed? All right, did you hear it? What does no? One? More time? Here it is listen. What does Sketcher's new Arrowburst and Sketcher's racecar have in common? What does what?
00:14:51
Speaker 2: What do?
00:14:52
Speaker 1: This is a Sketcher's TV commercial and it says what does talking about two things? What does what does Mike and Phil have in common? You wouldn't say that what do they have in common? Because it's right? Oh my god, Hey, sketchers, you've been grammar policed. Yeah, Alice, how does that get through the script? The writers, the dozens of vybody have no idea, no idea. Hey, speaking of grammar police, there's two things that popped up this week that I've been seeing a lot, especially in regards to sports talk radio. And I don't know if you've heard this mistake that people are all of a sudden making scary when you have an opinion, you have predetermined opinion on something. Right, You're like, well, of course, of course you say good things about the Mets.
00:15:46
Speaker 3: You are.
00:15:48
Speaker 1: A loyal b I'm I'm a fan of book. No, no, your opinion is it's biased? Biased, biased. My opinion is biased because I'm a I'm a Met fan and right right. The new thing now is everybody's saying, oh, I'm biased. I know I'm biased. It's not biased, it's biased. Bias is the noun biship can have a bias that means it tilts to one side. Are biased, You are right, you are biased. Bias is a noun. Biased is the adjective a person is biased. Your opinion is biased. B I A S. E. D. But everybody's like, oh, you are so biased. No, no, biaus the one is the other one is is killed killed right, you are even keelled. You're not even keel. No kill is a brand of of of products of face products. Ll right, you're even killed. So I don't know why we're dropping the e ed now. Apparently there wasn't enough D education in their life. But it's you are biased something to get. Okay. Now, now, if we can bias some steak dinners, that would be great bias. No, you can buy me, you could buy us. We'll be back in the Side Boys podcast. You know what, The bias thing reminds me of the commercial break we're talking about. It's like if you said I am smell, I'd say I am smelly, right, people like I am smell. Now you can stop with the I am biased thing? All right? Can I tell you what's going on here? And I don't know if I owe Johnny granted a call. I don't know what you would do in your situation, but I'll make this quick. So I gave Johnny Granite and his henchman the pink job, the pink job, the paint gig from my apartment. Now it's been two months since this is done. He's gone out of my life. He's moved on to other home projects. I have to. I wanted to change the lighting fixtures in my ceiling, so I buy a lighting fixture and I start to remove the old lighting fixture from the ceiling, and I realized, is the lighting fixture from ben Wah and Balls? No, the lighting fixture. The old lighting fixture was much bigger than this one, So it's this one has a small base. Well, I realize now that he never took the light covers and the fixtures off the ceiling to paint. He painted around the fucking fixtures on all my ceilings. So now I have this burgundy room. I'm out of burgundy paint. It's over long gone. But I have this white round disc from the paint job before from the ceiling sitting here as I put the new structure up. So or actually I had someone do it, you know, I didn't do it myself. So wait, did Johnny grantit not leave you any extra paint? There was no paint left. That's bullshit what you're telling me. There was to use the last drop of paint, the last drop of paint. You always have to have leftover paint for touchups. Well, dude, if you scratch that wall in a year and a half and they don't make that paint color anymore they do, you're gonna wish you had that paint in. It's a common color. But ah, but it just bothers me because I'm looking up. I'm looking up. It's terrible and there's just so Now the fixture is up and this is circular disc. It's all white, and then all the red around it, the red because I remember I painted my ceiling red. Rule of thumb. When you painted the apartment, you knew you would getting rid of the light fixtures, so you should have told them take down the fixtures and paint under them. Number two. Knowing that he didn't, you always buy a larger light fixture. So now you have to either go get a disc to put under the light fixture, like a flat disc, or you need to go return those to get a bigger one, or pay your maintenance guy to paint bring the fixture down, which you have to pay for now to undo the fixture. You cut corners and now you got circles. This is an absolute nightmare. That's my that's my motto. Don't cut corners. You end up with circles. Well, you know what, that's actually true, scary if you cut the corners lit up circles, you actually do. I gotta put that on the shirt. You should So yeah, I mean so I'm discovering these little you know, these little land mines, little by little. So now I'm looking at every other fixture in the apartment. Now, Luckily, my ceiling in my bedroom is white anyway, so it doesn't matter. He didn't paint the ceiling. But guess what color of the living room ceiling is blue? So I have to figure that one out because as soon as that fixture comes down, Garran dam tillya. He didn't unscrew that fixture either, Well what what what did you learn? Buy one with a bigger base, by I'm gonna want I'm gonna buy one with a bigger base. Can you go base in your face? The living room one shouldn't be a problem, but this one is what a brother? No, I don't know anyway, public enemy. Hey, speaking of Base, Rob died, Rob Base died, and now it takes none because they're both dead. Rob Based and Easy Rock? Right is DJ DJ Easy Rock? I think he died years ago? Right, Yeah? They're both gone, Rob fifty. That is wild. It's wild to think. I can't imagine that. But to carry yourselves people, I don't. I don't know what. How did he die? Do we know it was? I didn't read the article. I I just saw the headline go by. I want to rock right now. I'm Rob Bason. I came to get down. I'm not internationally, but I'm known to rock the microphoneh Hey, would you accept a joint as a tip if you were a smoker? Are you asking the audience? Yesking slices? Because I I would say no because I'm not. I'm not I'm not a smoker. Well, the slices. So my girlfriend, Robin, her friend, her friend her friend who's a big pothead, was in a restaurant and at the end of the meal, she tried to tip the waitress with a joint, a fully rolled joint instead of cash. No, no, no. And the waitress because she she you know, found out during the course of the meal that the waitress was a smoker. So she goes, you know, here's a fully rolled joint. So she gave her a joint and the waitress took it. The waitress accepted, so slices. My question to you is just to put this out there in the ether. Have you ever been a server and have you ever been tipped with anything other than cash? And what was it? I'd like to know. That's odd, Like, first of all, why would you trust the stranger to give you drugs rolled up in a joint? I don't Oh, they were bonding whatever. I mean. First of all, is the joint worth more than what would have been maybe a twelve dollars tip? Probably not. I don't know what. I don't know the going you know the going rate. But what'd you pay when you did drugs with your father? You know, I don't know. I think it's a nice gesture. But have you ever I don't know? What are other things? Taking some out of your pocket? And like instead of money, here's something like his drugs. If the person doesn't smoke, No, she checked it out and it worked, yes, because yeah, this worked in my favor. But she tipped with a joint and the waitress took it. Now, if somebody rolls her own joint, right, don't you lick it? Yes? Like do you want to smoke a joint that some stranger licked? I'm not doing that either. Yeah, well it's by the time it hits him, it's burned. The paper is burnt, is burned to a crisp, it's on fire. I think you're okay there, No, I'm not doing that. I'm not. I don't need to sanitize. I'm not. First of all, I don't do that. But what other what would you what would you accept as a tip? Okay, David Brody, you're a server. What would you accept as a tip other than cash? If somebody gave me a valuable comic book, Like, hey, you know what we were talking about, comic books. Here's giant size X Men one. I'm like, okay, that's a good tip. That's worth a lot of money. I would take that. Yeah, some form of electronic if it was legit, if I knew it wasn't like a bootleg reprint. Yeah, you know all right, Yeah, I'm trying to think. I don't know what would be worth Like, you know, ten dollars that I would take if they gave me a boomstick, pickle ball paddle, that's like a one hundred and fifty bucks. I've got a firestick. Here's a firestick from Amazon. No, I don't need that you don't need it, right, I got TVs? What everything built in now? Now, so what would you take? I'm trying to think, as I said, I don't really know whatever what's meaningful to me? It's ten twelve dollars or fifteen dollars depending on the check. Then they'd have to give you a BMW even if it was a twenty dollars tip. You know what would be good? I can of paint. I could. I could certainly use one right now, Sari and Brodie, now yep, oh yeah, you go for us? God yeah, yo, no, yeah, I can wait now after you, Philly, you got sour grapes. It's always sour grapes with Philly. I went to Atlantic City over the weekend and the Knicks were playing.
00:25:11
Speaker 3: And.
00:25:13
Speaker 1: It was it was at night during the game, and I was sitting at a bar waiting for my table at this restaurant and I'm sitting there and I'm looking up at the screen and they're watching women's softball college women's softball. Okay, nothing wrong with that, yes, okay, the nick game is on. So I said, hey, guys, guys, and I'm in South Jersey in Atlantic City. I'm like guys, can you put the Knicks on? And I didn't want to tell them, but maybe your bar would be more full and you attract some fucking passers by to buy some drinks and sit here at the fucking ball Exactly, it's mainly I mean, it's a lot of North Jersey. I would say, six seventy New York, New Jersey, and then you know, you get your twenty thirty percent from Philly, Pennsylvania other places. Right. But yeah, but I'm like, I said, could you put the Knicks game on? And he goes, oh, yeah, okay, and like haphazardly like grabs the remote, tries to find it whatever. Finally the game is on, and wouldn't you know, within five minutes two people sat down at the bar and decided to have a drink. This is right off the casino floor. But and then the other guy comes to me. When he gives me the bill, he goes, hey, he goes, thanks for requesting the game, he goes everyone else hears bitter balls about the Knicks beating the Sixers, so you know, nobody wants to watch this next you know, this next round with the calves, And I'm like, huh, I'm like that's putting their own personal feelings over the business. If I was the met GM of this bar, I would have fucking taken out. Did you just say the met GM. If I was the GM of this bark, I would have I would have removed this person, rip them up or written them up or how to talking to? How do you? Okay? I get it. You're a Philly fan. Your fucking ass hurt because we beat you four straight? Sorry but we did? And but but is that a reason? Is that a reason? Now? To take your grudge to your place of business where you work and your business, your job is to serve customers and oh, by the way, make tips. Okay, wouldn't you want wouldn't you want to just put the fucking game on and let people come and people might have forgotten it was on, and they show up and the whole shit and they're sitting down having drinks. Next thing you know, your bar's making more money. Why would you the bar in the casino though, yes, in the casino off the casino far so okay, So maybe the casino didn't want people leaving the games to go watch this. No, no, no, no, no. The bar, the restaurant is owned by a different company than the casino. They're they're licensed out. There's none of that shenanigans. Here's what I'll say, and then I'll qualify. Two years ago, when the Mets went to the NLCS the finals, the Nation League Finals. To make it simple, they lost to the Dodgers. I would not want to watch a Dodger game after they beat the Mets. Okay, however, the Dodgers don't play in the New Jersey Pennsylvania area. The difference here is that at least half your audience is a fan of the team that won. So I get that Philly doesn't want to watch the next game. And I would imagine the's people from Philly that are like, hey, listen, it's still playoff basketball. I still want to watch. But there's certainly enough New Yorkers that want to watch. New Jersey locals that want to watch. So it strikes me odd they wouldn't have the game on. That's a dereliction of duty, so to speak. You have to know that the NBA Playoffs are on. You're a bartender. You have to be up on that. Of course. Oh no, if they knew, they knew, they were just but three of the four people behind the counter that were working that area were Philly were Philly people South Jersey, and they didn't give up, they didn't care, and they didn't want to see the Knicks game. But it was the one guy who came over to me and said, hey, you know, thanks for asking for the game. We're waiting, because he couldn't tuck up amongst his he couldn't speak up amongst his coworkers. Come on, guys, we've got to watch the Knicks. But but it goes beyond a fandom thing. This, this is a job responsibility thing. This is business. This is fucking business. You you show up at work and you fucking suck it up. You know, it's an NBA game on. You got and it's it's a big one. And half the people walking around this place are are are fans. Yeah, so you've got to put the game on. You've got to actively do that. You don't fucking begrudgingly say fuck it, I'm gonna watch college women's softball. Hey listen, I went and there was only one TV. By the way, that's it. Right. When I go out with my friends to watch sports at there's like four or five different places we go. This one place has four televisions on one side of the bar and four on the other. Maybe five, could be five, I don't remember, could be six, four, sick whatever it is. And I went in the other night to watch the game, and all five or six TVs on one side with a Yankee game, and the other side had one Mets game and then like three Yankee games and something else like hockey whatever. The bartender because there were no seats available on the one Met game. It's the bartender. Sorry. So I say to the bartender, can you put with the Mets game on? You have six televisions all with the Yankee game? And he gives me the look like, seriously, when watch the fucking Mets. Yeah, because I'm a fan, I don't care if they're not doing well. You got it? Like do they need six televisions with the Yankee game? You can't look three inches to the right to see the screen. It was ridiculous. So he's not a Mets fan, so he put all the TVs on the Yankees. Same shit happens. That's small minded, and that is not certain. That is not doing your job. Your job is to give everyone a great experience. Because you're in the hospitality industry. I think you played it. Not roll. He's like, oh, I didn't know the A Mets game was on. Nobody's asked for it, doesn't. You don't have to ask for You don't need someone to come up to. If someone has to ask you to put on a game that's important, then you're not. Then you've already failed you. Your job when you're when you're setting up is to put on the fucking TVs and know what's out there. Whether you're a fan of the sport or the team or not, you've got to fucking have You make your customers happy, and maybe you'll get a bigger tip, maybe you'll make more money that night, you know, That's what That was my point with the next thing. You've got people walking up and down the casino floor. You know, people are gonna get attracted to the game, especially if it's gonna get good. A lot of them didn't. It was always the ex steam rolled all over the caves. But but my point is, you must do your job. You're paid to do this job, and maybe you you know whatever, I have a restaurant anyway, this other bar, I'm at another night again. I want to watch the Mets game and it's not on. One of the TVs has the Yankee game. One game has women's college softball whatever. Yeah, and one of the TVs has college men's college wrestling, like real wrestling, like the where the where the borat thong looking, you know, the whatever. So I don't know if you ever watched college well anyway, real wrestling, right, So, what happens is if you get somebody in a submission hold. I don't know the exact rules doesn't matter enough to you know what I'm saying. When when When When a round ends, if you were losing, you have to get in a submissive pose on like all fours, and then the guy who's winning gets behind you and straddles you so that you're starting at a disadvantage if you're the guy that's losing. Right, you know, like when you play golf and you put the ball back where it was, like, you put it back in the spot, get a move it for a minute, they have to reset. So I asked the bartend to put the Mets game on. He's like, yeah, give me a minute, I'll take care of it. And I'm sitting there and I'm watching these guys straddling each other and look a little you know, that's kind of different. Little So I turned to the guy next to him, and I'm like, no. I turned to the guy next him. I go, dude, what are we watching here? Like? What? Who's watching this? Right? I'm thinking he's gonna go, yeah, you know what he says to me, dead dead faced, big dude too? He goes, I wrestled in college. I'm watching it. Oh, ship, all right? I said, uh, wow, there's a there's a plot twist here. Oh oh that that's awesome. That's great. Uh what what what level did you? I go, can you explain to me why the heavyweight is so slow? And then and this starts explaining it to me and I distracted him enough to understand trying to patronize him, ingratiating yourself to the college wrestler. Yeah. So luckily the bartender changed a different television to the Mets game, and I was fine, but I was sort of like, dude, who's watching this? Ship? And I get no offense to anyone who college wrestles. It's a legitimate sport. It's very athletic. And I will say I did enjoy the lighter weighted contestants. The wrestlers better than the heavyweights. The heavyweights are so bulky that it's based on strength and they don't really move a lot. They just kind of like squeeze. But the skinnier, the lighter weight guys are flying and flipping and flying their legs over and but yeah, I almost got killed. Scary, they almost got killed because this guy was like, I wrestled or not, and you know what it was like, kudos to the bartender for taking requests and putting something that's not mainstream on the on the TV for his customers to watch. That's cool and not changing the wrestling and getting and me being the blame for it. Yeah, but pretty want to be the guy that like was like, oh he turned it off in this guy exactly. But pretty sure nobody requested college women's softball at the AC bar that I was at. Pretty sure that was well, although I've watched college women's like on ESPN seven whatever it is, that's what it was. I enjoy it. I definitely enjoy it. Anyway, I turned over a new leaf and and I want to share that story a little bit later in the podcast because it's gonna blow your mind. Scary because you're gonna think I did something and I didn't do it, and I'm surprised that myself are not doing it. So I'll get to that in a minute. But I wanted to tell you about something that happened to pick a ball. I'm not gonna play the pick a Ball song, but scary. Sometimes sometimes karma is a wonderful thing. So there's this kid I want to say. He's like nineteen, he's very tall, he's a good looking kids. He dresses like he's rich. He wears like rich guy tennis shorts and a rich guy polo and he plays pickle ball. He's very good. Sounds like he has a punchable face. Yeah, he's got a perfect haircut. You know, he comes from money, and there's nothing wrong with that. God bless anyway, he plays pickle ball like he doesn't give a shit, like there's no joy in his life. He's just very look he's better than a lot of us. He's younger than a lot of us. He runs around and like he hogs the court, like he'll come on to my side because he could get to the ball. And so he like he plays like seventy percent of the court and it's fucking annoying. And I and like I've said something him like dude, stay on your side, right, Just kidding here, But he likes to act like I can't get to the ball or he can, so he'll just he does everything. He covers. He just runs back and forth like he's playing by himself sometimes and after he hits the ball, he slams the ball. He doesn't even look. He just like slams the ball and walks away like duh, I'm done, like slams it and just like like fuck this game. I don't know why he plays. I think he does it like just to beat people up. Anyway. So I get stuck playing with him the other day and he's doing that shit where he's covering the whole court, and I'm like I can't give him the look. Right. So this one shot the other team hits the ball, they kind of they loop it, so it's in the air moving in slow motion. You looped it, You looped it. He leaps up, because again he's athletic and like six six feet tall, six don't know. He leaps up and he slams the ball down, slam it and it goes flying low and hard at the other team, and he turns around and starts walking back to the baseline because he's like, yeah, I slammed it, right, however, scary, oh boy, the other team. I on the older guy. He lunges for it and he just manages to get it, and he hits it, and it goes right and hits this dude in the back of the head. And it was the greatest moment of my month. Even though you were on this guy. Yeah, fuck him. He got nailed right in the back of the head. And it happened so fast. I didn't have time to warn him. And I'm not sure I would have warned him, because he had like this cocky look, like, yeah, slammed it, and he got and the guy and he didn't even look to see that if he made the point. He just no, he just said, fuck it, I got this smash, slammed it and did a quick one eighty turned around smash, she said, walking back, and the guy ran deep in the court by the fence and whipped it back a miracle return. Nailed him in the lower like in the top of his neck, back of his head. A look, it doesn't hurt. Pick a ball usually, especially from a distance, right, But that's like one of those in your face moves right right. It wasn't deliberate. It was just fucking karma because this guy is just a young douche, arrogant douche. That's a douche. You know that. That's a d O O O s h. Douche like play like play like a decent human being. Don't be a douche about it. So I got sometimes so slices. Does that happen to you? Is there been a moment where the douche gets it? Because the douche got it, let me know if there was a moment in your life in sports and jobs, you know, like when the guy cuts you off and he's speeding and then two minutes lady see him getting pulled over by the cops. That's the karma. That's the Karma Police. We need a jingle, the Karma Police, Karma Police, Kara Police podcast.
00:38:57
Speaker 3: We will be right back.
00:38:59
Speaker 1: I have something for you real quick. And forgive me for trying to get rid of something that could be memorabilia. So you know how when when when an artist reaches a certain milestone with copies sold of their albums, they get a platinum record is like an engraving. Yeah, like a plaque inside a dedicate dedication. This is an honor to commemorate one million copies sold. And they present it to like one of us, like Scary Jones, and has your name on it. And then that is mounted with the album in it. It's got maybe the album cover. It's in a picture frame. I got one of those ones, yes, so it might be the same one that I got.
00:39:41
Speaker 3: No.
00:39:41
Speaker 1: I got one from a rock band called Whyland W A, Y L A and D from Oka. Not a major. If you likes like hard rock, Whyland fantastic band that should be should be bigger. Okay, Well, side note, those platinum and gold albums industry secret of the time. That's some random album. It has nothing to do with the actual album. They didn't they spray painted because there was an episode I guess it was. Conan O'Brien was interviewing the remaining Beastie Boys on his podcast last year. They actually told a story from back in the day when they were in LA and they just took the Paul's Boutique record off the wall and they smashed it and they put the record on the platter and it was some fucking jazz record. So it was it wasn't even there. It wasn't even their album. But they you know, they told the story to Conan. But uh, have you ever heard of the artist hi Verdice? Yeah? Of course, Okay's he had like a hit. Yeah, And so the label was kind enough to give platinum records to the Morning Show. And in my move here, I had to part with some things. Remember I told you I cleaned out the old storage closet. I was paying a crazy amount of money for yep. Well, some things had to be parted with. So I said, it's been nice knowing you. Ti vert As platinum record dedicated to Scary Jones. I, yeah, it's time to bid you a fond to do so you to be to sell? No, So I brought it downstairs. Well, it's my name on it. The whole thing is is in framed glass and it has a separate metal tag that says to Scary Jones to commemorate. But I'm not gonna, even as cool as it is, I'm not gonna put a ti Vertics platinum record on my wall because people are gonna be like, who the this is black? No, who's Ti vertics. You know, I'm kidding, who's Tivertics? You know? But you know what they're gonna go.
00:41:36
Speaker 2: You know what.
00:41:37
Speaker 1: He was a big artist. He was kind enough because I'm I'm in radio. I know, I know. But I have a lot of this memorabilia and I got it part with it. I got it, so I decided to recycle it. So I brought it downstairs. Oh no, I brought it down, threw it out. I threw it away. What the fuck am I gonna do with this thing?
00:41:54
Speaker 3: It?
00:41:54
Speaker 1: There's no room in storage. I have no storage. I imagine there's a Ti vert As fan somewhere in the world. Old you could have put it online, and no, I don't want to sell it. I didn't got it for free. Why would I sell it? So you sell everything you get for free? So Brody, I sent it. So I gave it to the garbage people. They took it away, They haled it out of here, never to bennotation professionals, never to be seen again. Oh contrampont Frere. A week and a half later, I get an email, a random email from a guy who works at a recycled plant, and it says, hello, mister Scarry Jones, I'm doing the recycling today during my shift, and I came across this beautiful platinum record that I believe belongs to you and was mistakenly thrown away. I'm in the North Jersey area, and if you like, I can drop it off. I can have it sent over to you to your address if you give me your dress, or you could come pick it up. Here's the address. But we think this was thrown away in error, and we want to return that to you. I felt so bad. It's like a boomerang of garbage. You can't get rid of your garbage. Did you tell the guy to keep it? I yeah, I said hey, I said, so that was intentionally thrown away by me, And I just want to say thank you for getting in touch and thinking. You know, I could see how you thought this was a mistake. But in all fairness, it's really just a spray painted record. It's not actual platinum. It's not valued. He must have thought it was like, oh, this is like worth like twenty thousand dollars, and maybe I can get a reward for this, you know, this beautiful album emblazoned in platinum spray paint. But the fact is he got it I was so, I mean, there are good people in this world who would have taken the time out of their day. Some guy like sort of sorry to junk. He's like, I'm gonna email this guy. It's too bad the person who found your expensive sneakers as your housekeeper throughout, yeah, didn't contact you like I have found these sneakers because your name wasn't on him. You gonna put your name in it like when you were in first grade. But could you imagine this guy went, he went to great length. He said, you know what, I'm gonna email. I'm gonna find he and there was no email return address on it. Whatever. He just googled my name, saw who I was, made the connection and said he d MS you or he sent you an email. He emailed me, Okay, what do you find you through the website? Yeah, okay, that's amazing. So okay, true story. You know our old radio station ZE what one hundred in the New York area, we moved a few times, right, yes, when I when I was there, we moved one two times, two times, two times. Right. We moved to Jersey City and then we moved to Lower Manhattan, right, Yeah, so the caucus to Jersey City to Lower Manhattan and then the fifty fifth. Okay, so when we moved from New Jersey to Manhattan, yep, you know all those plaques. Who normally gets all those plaques? Scary? The program, direct, the record and the music right the right, the big bosses, the bosses get that. We never get that. That's the thing. We don't really get this as like here he is at Tivertes level of celebrity. In case you're wondering, like how big and Radio is scary? Johnes? Is he Mariah carry level?
00:45:33
Speaker 3: No?
00:45:34
Speaker 1: Is he is he like uh Ed Sheeron level? No, he's Tivertes level. And listen, God blessed ti vertis I met him? Who's nice guy? He is? He is a nice guy. And I just don't have I didn't did hold on? I didn't get one. So David Brody twenty four years at the Morning Show, I was not Tiverts level, Okay, I was Wayland level, which is fine. Wayland's great. Anyway, when the Big bosses had to move to New off Manhattan, they were all told the offices are smaller, you need to downsize. So when we used to go into the Big Bosses offices, all of their plaques were on the floor like like ten rows deep. It looked like you were going into it like a like an arch, like an art store, like a like a like a poster store. I got one of these. They got dozens and dozens and dozens and dozens, hundreds, hundreds, because they're the ones who usually get them. Yeah. You know those great dumpsters on wheels that people push around like in the hallways, right, they put one outside the offices of the music director and the program director and the assistant program director, and they were just dumping shit into these bins for weeks, just dumping them in, dumping them in. You would go dumpster diving daily, wouldn't you? If I saw a big name artist gold, gold medal, gold plaque, or platinum record, I would you know? There was a couple areic caught my eye, Yeah, but didn't have your name on it. It had other people's names on the way, correct, that's correct. But they threw them out. They were garbage at that point, completely claimable. So thank you. I sold a Duran durand platinum album on eBay five hundred bucks. Are you kidding me? I'm not going to tell you all the other ones I sold. But yes, after I left the radio station, I thought what am I doing with these? But they had but they were dedicated to the people who worked at the radio station, so they had people's names on it that worked there. So somebody bought that shit off you, and they're like, who is this person's name that it's in cast? They got they got a platinum album from the record label. He's a real that were done by the record label and the artists, and this was signed. It was signed by the band. They signed the glass, So the band must have come up and presented it. Oh yeah, that shit's worth I don't know about Ti Verdes. I was about to say, I feel like I threw away money. Now, yeah, you could have gotten a Hey, you know what you could have done with the ty vertis album. I could tip tip away with it. You get timp of waitress with it. That's what you could have done. Hey, dinner was great? You like tye Vernis? Yeah, here here's a platinum altum instead of twenty dollars. I'm not a joint on me. There's a type Vernis platinum album. It's the Boys podcast. All right's scary? I teased this before. Let me just get to it. So, uh. I went to a place for dinner two saturdays in a row. Okay, again casual, nothing fancy. I went to watch the Knicks game, I think. So there's a sports bar, and the first night I went, there was a steak sandwich on the menu I had not had before, Like, oh, I'm gonna get the steak sandwich. So I got the steak sandwich and it was steak and a bunch of things on it that I like and some things. I ordered it without you know me, right, and I added tomato because I didn't like the whatever vegetables were on the steak sandwich. You know what I like tomato? I guess lice tomatoes stead yep. Absolutely. And I've been there enough times that the bartenders sort of recking me and my friend. Okay, so my friend's food's fine. I get the steak and I bite it and it goes, No, it's a little tough. Something doesn't taste right with this. I open up the steak sandwich and the edges of its slice steak like about an inch stick like an inch wide, like strips about an inch wide, and it's raw in the middle, raw raw. Okay, you know I can get steak tar tar. That's basically how it looks. Just for the record, I ordered it medium rare. I didn't order rare medium rare, which is pink. That's pink, not raw. Okay. So I show the bartender and she says, oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. Let me get that remade fore you Now, it takes like twenty minutes to get it remade. I was like, well, if they can reheat it, that's fine. I'm not picky. It's fine. No, no, no, no, we'll get you a new one. Okay. Twenty something minutes later, comes out, how is it now? I go, well, it's cooked. But yeah, it's cooked. But then I noticed there's no tomatoes, and she's helping of the customers. Well, the manager walks over, Okay, we'll call a manager, Mike. Manager Mike comes over. He goes, hey, I'm sorry about that. Is it okay?
00:50:08
Speaker 3: Now?
00:50:08
Speaker 1: Is it the way you like it? I go, well, yeah, but to be honest with you, I ordered it with tomatoes. If I could get skin a little side of tomatoes, that'd be great. Oh, no problem, brings to tomatoes out. He goes hey again, I'm terribly sorry. Sorry, We gave you a raw steak now scary. You know me, Normally I would say i've been here, I'm here fairly often. Maybe you could do something for me topic before I've no, doesn't do anything. I'm like, you know what, fine, I'm gonna be calm. I'm turning over a new leaf. I'm just gonna come here a lot, uh, you know, at once a month. Maybe I'm not gonna I'm just gonna eat the steak, eat the guy brought the man. I'm good, Okay, it was a really good steak sandwich, scary, really good. I freaking loved it. The fries were excellent, really good, and I used to get other things there. I was like, you know what, next time I come, I'm gonna get this sandwich again. It was that good. And I go back again on Saturday. Next Saturday, would my boy and we go to watch the Knicks game again. I go and the same bartender's there. I go, hey, give me the stak sandwich again, medium, rare, and she goes, I'm sure they'll get it right this time. Sorry about last week, she remembered me. Okay, I said, oh, no problem. The steak comes out and she goes huh did they get it right this time? And I open it up and secary it's fucking raw again. Maybe they have a different definition of what medium rare is. Oh funny you say that, so I tell her, and she goes, oh my god, I'm so sorry. I don't let me get you another one. I go, please just reheat it, microwave it something. I don't want to wait. No, no, no, we'll get you to them. Yeah, scare wait at a half hour. I get it a half hour. It took an hour, almost an hour from the time I ordered the first one to I get the second one. The manager brings it over. Manager Mike again. He goes, hey, He goes, I know this happened to you last week. He goes, I don't know what it is. Man. I guess my cooks don't know how to read the way you want the food cooked. So I said, I'm sorry, he's I guess they'd how to read you ordered the medium rare. I said, what what do you mean they don't how to read? It wasn't cooked at all? Did they think it said? Don't cook? It was raw? It wasn't like it was medium well, and they they didn't They saw medium and they it wasn't cooked. Yeah, sorry about that, and there's the tomatoes on here. I got it the right way. Go Yeah, but this is two weeks in a row. He goes, Yeah, I'm gonna talk to them, but listen, enjoy your meal. Uh uh you know, I appreciate your patience. And he walks away. Now scary. Yeah, it's one thing if you don't camp my steak or free dessert, even if not even the first week. Hey, I'll buy your die coke. It's on me right the second time in a row a week later, when the bartender remembers, the manager remembers, I waited an hour for my for my dinner. My boys finished eating. You know, the game is in the fourth quarter. We're leaving soon. I'm just getting my food now. It's like nine five whatever it was we got there and when the game had already started. How do you not do anything for me? How do you not say I'm sorry, we fucked you. We cooked raw fucking steak two times. I'll tell you why, because this is one of those sliding scale things that vary from business to business on what constitutes medium, what's rare, what's well. It was raw, it was like it was right, I guess it like it was. It wasn't like it was it was rare or medium, like medium, like I was like, hey, you overcook my steake. Scary. It was clear, it was clear, pinkish, it was raw. So maybe these cooks think that that that's what medium rare is, you know, but they need to be taught that that's not what that is. You know, like when you go to you know what, they say that like the pery, Yeah, yeah, the perfect size eight, And like a size eight varies from label to brand to brand. A size eight all that is is they make they measure someone to be a size eight in it at a brand and a local clothing brand, a designer, a label, and then they say, this person who tried his clothing on and this is the eighth. There's a sliding scale that goes up from there and a sliding scale that goes down. But the fit model who tried that on is going to be different from Banana Republic to you know, the you know one of these other stores. You know, name a store, you know, pick a store. From brand to brand to brand, they have different fit models. So each fit model is a different is what that company says is a sizing. So similarly, my analogy is with restaurants. You go into a restaurant, at least some places will tell you right at the beginning of the menu, Hey, at our restaurant, medium rare is a pink center. Pink center with rare is yah blood blood red. I get absolutely so. But here's the thing. The manager didn't say to me, just so you know, sir, what that that raw fucking steak. That's what we mean by medium rare. He didn't say that. He said, my cook don't know how to read. Where can you order raw? Can I can? I have said, give me a steak sandwich fucking raw? So that was so you what you're saying is the way they cooked. It was inedible for anyone and nobody. Nobody would even nobody would order that scary. I normally eat rare steak, but I ordered medium rare in places where I know they might get it wrong, so I go up a little bit to give them a little leeway. It was raw. He didn't say to me, Hey, you know what, that's how that's what we call rare. It just needs a little couple more seconds. Yeah, he acknowledged it was fucking raw. Yeah, and he's like, oh, I guess they don't know how to read what. They looked at rare and saw raw. They thought that thought the bar tend to put in cook. This guy's fucking steak sandwich raw. My point is, I finished my meal, I'm walking out. He's at the front desk with another manager. There's two managers there, and I said nothing, I walked out. You don't recognize this David Brody. I don't recognize this David Brody. How did I leave without getting free? Deserted? That was the next question. There was no follow up. On both occasions, You're like, I'm going to be a better person. However, I spent like fifty bucks, sixty bucks on steaks. Whatever it was you did eventually get you did on both occasions, get the steak the way that you're not. But even if not even free DESI asked my question, am I a better person for leaving? Am I not being true to myself? Or should I email the corporate office and let them know what went on? And no, you go slices. You could feel free to input and leave us a talk back, leave us a talk back. Yeah, my opinion is my opinion is of the following. You basically go there every week, You're always in there. You don't want to shit on them. You don't want to. You don't want to upset the apple cart. You know they now know they're not going to fuck with you again. This isn't a one time deal. Twice dude, be a better man, Pearl jam and jam and and please let them be unless you want to start a fight. If you feel like you're not gonna go there again, then you could take dumps all over you want. And now email the corporate office, because the only thing is gonna happen when you email the corporate office is the GM and everyone in staff is going to fucking get in trouble and they're gonna take it out on you, Like there has the fucking asshole that blew the whistle on us. You know what would Larry David do? He would go back, he go you know, yeah, yeah, but yeah, and Larry Dave was an asshole for that, yeah but he yes, he would get barred from the restaurant. Yeah. You know what else was an asshole to me? Real quick as we get out of here, Gandhi, we had Olivia Rodrigo in studio like we had Olivia Rodrigo and we had a few We had a big week of guests. Big Gandhi did a photo dump on her Instagram. Well what does she do? She cuts me out of the picture in the group photos, just to she made it. One picture was was I forgot who it was, Nigel Barker. I believe he was pedaling his his espresional Martine, which by the way, is wonderful. It was him and Els on one side, Danielle on the other and her and then cuts me off, cuts me out of the picture. And then within the next photo Olivia Rodrigo, she cuts me off again, she cuts me out of the pit. I'm like, what do you have of vendetta against me? What do you hate me so much that I can't appear in your pictures? I hate it. Next time, I'm fucking standing right on top of her, in front of her, so this way it'll be hard. It'll be hard for her to cut me out of a picture. Seriously, Gandhi, I feel like we should have her on this podcast. I'd like to get to the psyche behind why she's acting this way. I will say this. We had Seth McFarland up on the show when I was there. Gandhi worked there and and so you know all the hosts, Gandhi and Elvis and Danielle, they stood next to Seth McFarland and I did the crop and drop. The crop and drops that is when you kneel in front of the celebrity. This this way, you're in front of them, and then you crop out everyone on the sides, so it looks like the celebrity is standing behind you and you're in the picture. It looks like that you're taking it up. The ass from the celebrity is what it is. I'm on the floor. It's you. You're kneeling in front of the over. You're not bent over. You're bent over in front of Seth MacFarlane. It's just you and him in the picture. Bent over. I'm on one knee, okay, in the camera, okay, whatever. And I cropped all you motherfuckers out of the picture, you know. BANDI boys, boys,
Speaker 1: Start Up, dot Up, Start Up.
And I cropped all you motherfuckers out of the picture, you know. BANDI boys, boys,
